The Hawkesbury Hawks enjoyed a winning finish to their December schedule in the Central Canadian Hockey League. The Hawks beat the Cornwall Colts 4-3 in their last road game of the year. They then defeated the Nepean Raiders 3-1 at home on December 22 before going on their Christ- mas break. Both teams were close on the scoring opportunities during the Hawkesbury-Cor- nwall game Dec. 21 in Cornwall. But the Hawks took better advantage of their power- play opportunities compared to the Colts. The Colts raced onto the scoreboard first with Cornwall’s Ethan Grant putting the first puck into the goal about six minutes into first period with help from Jack Collins and Cameron Hébert. David Jankowski tied the score up with a power-play goal at themid- period point with an assist from Fletcher Anderson. The second period belonged to Hawkes- bury. Kari Belec broke the tie in the Hawks favour six minutes into the play thanks to an assist from Patrick O’Neal. Third period was scoreless during the first 10minutes of the play. J.D. Pogue of the Colts tied up the score again with help from Hébert and Alexander Monteleone. About threeminutes before the end of the period Belec tied the score back up again on a power-play with Jankowski and Matt Gasuik providing assists. Jankowski then pushed the score ahead for the Hawks with a solo goal about a minute before the end of the period. EthanMulhearn, with an assist fromRod- die Sandilands, made good on his power- play opportunity in the last 10 seconds of the period to try and bring the Colts close to tying up the score again. But Cornwall never got the chance for another goal. The Hawks skated away with a 4-3 win. Hawks goalie Matthew Petizian earned the first star nomination of the game after blocking 26 out of 29 shots on the Hawkes- bury net. Jankowski was the other Hawkes- bury player nominated for the three-star selection. Cornwall’s Hébert earned the third star nomination. The Hawks should be back in their own arena at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex in Hawkesbury in January. Meanwhile they ended their temporary game schedule at the Vankleek Hill Arena with a 3-1 defeat for the Nepean Raiders on Dec. 22 before the Christmas break. The Hawks outshot the Raiders two for one throughout the game and also had more power-play opportunities than the visiting team. The Raiders got onto the scoreboard first with Silas Mattawashish scoring the one and only goal for Nepean six minutes into first period. Assisting on the goal were Antoine Belisle and Alexander Bourhas. David Jankowski tied up the score two minutes later with help fromAlex Côté and Chris Smith.
