“ Go out into the highways and hedges and constrain them to come in.” Luke 14:23, (A. R. V.) Among the thirty-six converts who received baptism at the China Inland Mission on Sunday, May 23, was a Mrs. Suen, a woman of 65 years, whose ex perience was so interesting that she was asked to give a testimony at the baptismal service. Her words are of deep interest both as a record of her personal experience in turning from idolatry to Christ, and because they reveal some of the methods used by our evangelists and demonstrate the persistent faithfulness with which they carry on their work in the far away portions of our extensive field. Mrs. Suen said:7 “ For many years I was a most enthusiastic worshipper of idols. A few years ago some young men came to our village and visited my home, they told me of Jesus and His power to save; they also gave me some books which they asked me to read. Thinking that they were preaching a ‘foreign religion,’ I paid very little at tention to them and -would not even look at the books. A couple of days later two other members of the band came and said, ‘We are bringing you a- message of true happiness and we implore you do not reject it.’ Once more they called, and I asked them: ‘Why do you continue coming here, I have not encouraged you in any way; why are you so persistent?’ "In the meantime they had put up a Gospel Poster on a wall near my home, the title of it was: ‘Happy Are They Who Believe.’ They seemed so earnest and sincere that I decided to inquire into the matter, so I asked their names, and one of them was a Mr. Kang Chien-Heng. (Mr. Kang is now leader of Band No. 3.) Mr. Kang ex plained to me very carefully who Jesus is, and told me that if I would only believe on Him my sins would be for given and I would receive as a free gift eternal life. My heart was moved, I realized that my idolatrous practices

Dr. Keller’s Mother Who Celebrated Her 84th Birthday (and Her 4th Birthday in China) April 28th were useless so I gave them up at once and began to study the Bible. In,the New Testament I read Christ’s com mand to ‘Go into all the world and preach the Gospel,’ and I said to my self: ‘Oh, I see that it is my duty to be a messenger for God,’ so without delay I began to tell others of my sal vation through faith in Jesus. “ My heart is just full of joy and gratitude, for my home is over ten miles from Changsha, away back in a little country village where few outsiders ever come, and if the Biola Evangelistic Band had not come there, it does not seem at all likely that I would ever have heard of Jesus. But these earnest young men came and would not give up until I had believed, now I have
