The Hilton Hotel Kilmainham, a 4-star hotel overlooking Kilmainham Gaol Museum, undertook a significant upgrade to increase guest capacity and enhance overall facilities. Existing ground-floor meeting rooms and office areas were reconfigured to expand the hotel to 130 rooms. Ardmac was appointed to deliver the refurbishment and reconfiguration works within a live operational environment. The scope included converting 10 former meeting rooms into contemporary guest bedrooms, including one accessible room, alongside refurbishment of the main lobby and associated front-of-house areas. Additional works included relocating the comms room and luggage storage, reconfiguring back-of-house office space, and converting a basement meeting room into two offices. The works involved extensive demolition and structural alterations, as well as mechanical and electrical modifications to extend and redistribute services between floors. Each bedroom was completed with bespoke joinery, upgraded lighting, and high-quality finishes aligned with modern hospitality standards. To enhance natural daylight, spandrel panels along the South Circular Road elevation were also reconfigured.
In the main reception area, the layout was adjusted to accommodate a relocated reception desk, new luggage storage, a comms room, and office space, along with refreshed finishes and an upgraded lobby ramp to improve circulation and guest experience. As the hotel remained fully operational throughout, Ardmac adopted a carefully phased approach to minimise disruption and maintain uninterrupted guest access. Close coordination with hotel management was maintained throughout, supported by clear communication and detailed planning to ensure works were seamlessly integrated with ongoing operations. ‘Ardmac were appointed to deliver a 10-bedroom extension, lobby refurbishment, and associated works at the Hilton Hotel Kilmainham. During the shutdown period, Ardmac worked collaboratively with the design team to develop the design and works packages, ensuring that once the construction sector reopened, on-site
