Ardmac was appointed to deliver the complete fit- out of McHugh’s new urban eatery in Portmarnock, transforming a large shell-and-core commercial unit into a contemporary dining destination. The project formed part of the McHugh family’s continued expansion within the hospitality sector, building on more than 50 years of experience and a long-established reputation for quality, service, and customer experience. The development involved the refurbishment and fit- out of an approximately 229m² unit at Kingsford Cross, Strand Road, Dublin. Ardmac worked closely with the client and design team to deliver a bespoke restaurant environment that reflected the McHugh brand while also meeting the practical demands of a busy hospitality operation. A key objective of the project was flexibility. The restaurant layout was designed to adapt quickly between intimate dining arrangements and larger group settings of up to 20 guests. Distinct dining zones were carefully incorporated to create a balance between openness and privacy, ensuring the venue remained lively yet comfortable throughout breakfast, lunch, and evening service.
A multifunctional front-of-house area was also introduced to accommodate early morning coffee trade and transition seamlessly into a relaxed evening drinks space. The fit-out featured bespoke joinery and furniture, innovative wine storage solutions, customised lighting design, and a striking slatted timber ceiling constructed entirely from stained ash hardwood. Banquette seating, LED strip lighting, and a newly designed bar area enhanced the contemporary aesthetic while reinforcing the warm and inviting atmosphere envisioned by the client. The completed restaurant now provides seating for approximately 80 diners in a bright, modern, and highly adaptable hospitality environment.
