Genomics Medicine Ireland is a leading Irish life sciences company specialising in large-scale, population-based genome research studies. Ardmac was appointed to deliver the upgrade and fit-out of an existing ground floor unit within Cherrywood Business Campus into a fully operational DNA testing laboratory facility. The project involved the creation of high-specification laboratories designed to meet GLP standards, alongside associated gowning areas, cold storage facilities, office accommodation, communications rooms, and dedicated HVAC plant areas. To achieve the strict environmental requirements of the laboratories, airtight wall systems, controlled air pressure environments, and secondary facades were installed throughout the facility. The fit-out works included the installation of partition walls and wall linings, suspended ceilings with non-perforated ceilingtiles,raisedaccessflooringwithanti-staticfinishes, glazed laboratory frontage, internal doors, bespoke built-in joinery, loose furniture, and blinds. Structural modifications were also undertaken to strengthen the floor plate and accommodate the significant loading requirements of the NovaSeq sequencing unit.
Extensive mechanical and electrical services were delivered as part of the project, including upgrades to site services, main distribution systems, general and small power, general and emergency lighting, security and protective systems, and associated life safety installations. The facility was further supported by a dedicated generator and UPS system to provide full backup power resilience for critical laboratory operations. The laboratories incorporated full air conditioning and air handling systems serving four individual laboratory spaces, together with ancillary rooms, fridges, freezers, storage areas, and specialist equipment zones. All systems were carefully coordinated to support the sequencing of genetic material within a safe, stable, and highly controlled environment. As the remainder of the building remained fully occupied throughout construction, stringent noise, access, and logistics controls were implemented to minimise disruption to neighbouring businesses and the adjacent childcare facility.
