West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., a global leader in the manufacture of packaging components and delivery systems for injectable drugs and healthcare products, commissioned the design, construction, and fit-out of a state-of-the-art medical device facility on a greenfield site. The project was developed to support the company’s continued growth while providing advanced manufacturing, research, and operational capabilities in a highly regulated environment. Ardmac was appointed to deliver the full turnkey solution, encompassing the construction of a modern facility containing research laboratories, cleanroom manufacturing suites, open-plan and cellular office accommodation, meeting rooms, and a range of support spaces. From the outset, the project demanded exceptional attention to detail, strict adherence to protocol, and full compliance with the stringent standards associated with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing. To ensure efficient project coordination and delivery, Ardmac utilised Building Information Modelling (BIM) across all stages of design and construction.
The use of BIM enabled seamless coordination between architectural, structural, and mechanical and electrical services, reducing clashes, improving communication, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and accuracy throughout the build process. The construction works included the erection of a steel portal frame structure combined with blockwork walls, external cladding systems, and Kingspan roofing. Internally, the facility incorporated a high-specification architectural fit-out tailored to the technical and operational requirements of cleanroom manufacturing and laboratory environments. In addition to the building works, the project also included extensive ancillary and infrastructure developments across the site. These works comprised the construction of car parking facilities, landscaping, drainage systems, and all necessary connections to existing utilities and services. The completed facility provides West Pharmaceutical Services with a modern, compliant, and future-focused manufacturing and research environment, supporting innovation, operational efficiency, and continued expansion within the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
