A. The virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ was not a natural occurrence. It was not alone because He was bom of a human mother that made it possi ble for our Saviour to be without sin. There was the wonderful power of the Holy Spirit as we read the remarkable words in Luke 1:35, “And the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be bom of thee shall be called the Son of God.” Our Lord Jesus was both deity and humanity so that what is tme with other individuals was not tme with Him. Human beings par take of both the father’s and mother’s nature. But remember, they also par take of the grandparents, the great grandparents and back all the way to Adam and Eve. No taint of sin from Adam, which is passed to all men, ever touched our blessed Saviour. That was made sure by the power, presence and activity of the Holy Spirit in the virgin Mary. Q . Portland, Oregon “W hy is the title ‘the everlasting Father’ applied to the Lord Jesus in Isaiah 9:6?” A. This wonderful passage tells us that “a child is bom,” but “a son is given.” Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who was given as a child born in Beth lehem. God is a Trinity, eternally mani fested in three persons. Here we find Jesus Christ referred to as God. The phrase, “the everlasting Father” is translated from the Hebrew and means the provider of His own in eternity. This speaks of the wonderful grace of the Lord Jesus Christ in that He takes care of all who have received Him as Saviour. Q . San Francisco, Calif. — “Why does the Bible say in Matthew 1:23, ‘they shall call his name Immanuel,’ when He was actually never catted that? A t least I can’t find that word used again in the New Testament.” A. You are correct. In this word is the most beautiful blending and harmoniz- '2A

Radio Questions (continued) spiritual growth. She loves her husband but she must love God first for He is not only her Creator but her Re deemer. She will need to explain this as dispassionately as possible. If an agreement cannot be reached, a trained counselor, in whom they both might have confidence- should be sought. If the husband refuses her any kind of attendance at the house of God, then she will possibly have to take some very serious action. But before any such steps are taken, ask the. church to pray that God would work in the heart of this husband. Q . Downey, California — “Are there two battles of Armageddon spoken of in the Word of God? Also, are there two Gogs and two Magogs?” A. No, there are not two battles by either of these names. There is the battle of Armageddon, and there is one war known as the battle of Gog and Magog. Armageddon takes place at the end of the tribulation period and just before the Lord Jesus Christ sets up His millennial reign. It merges from the battle into the reign of the Lord Jesus Christ. This will be between the forces of the antichrist and the Lord Jesus Christ. Immediately follow ing the millennial reign of Christ Satan is loosed from his prison and goes out to deceive the nations which are in the four comers of the earth, Gog and Magog. He gathers them together to battle. They go up to encompass the camp. of the saints even about the beloved city. Then fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them (Revelation 20). QUESTIONS CONCERN ING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST Q . Seattle, Washington — “I can’t under stand how the virgin birth freed Christ from the guilt of Adam’s first sin. Does a child partake only of the nature of his father and not at all of his mother? It would seem that this would be only half the matter.”
