UJ supplies the South African economy with 13 000 graduates annually to uplift our economy

28% of approximately 50 000 students at UJ come from the poorest quintile 1 and 2 schools

46% of UJ students are “Missing Middle” students They are “too rich” to qualify for NSFAS support, but too poor to afford fees and qualify for commercial loans

The average cost of studies is R85 000 , including living expenses, per year

In 2016, UJ launched the biggest fundraising campaign ever undertaken by a South African university for the “Missing Middle”

SOME OF THE WAYS WE SUPPORT STUDENTS:

R18 million towards free inter campus transport so that our students can travel safely

R13.2 million to give 8 000 students two healthy meals per day so that they can concentrate on their studies
