CHRISTOPHER BISHOP FINE ART ILLUMINATES RARE PONTORMO AT ACADEMY MANSION Christopher Bishop Fine Art’s presentation of a circa 1537 double-sided drawing by Italian Mannerist painter Jacopo Pontormo was a consensus highlight at Master Drawings New York 2018 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where the rare artwork was priced at $1.65 million. DUGGAL’S ROLE The Connecticut dealer called on Duggal to help transform the Academy Mansion at 2 East 63rd Street with original drawings that he described to Robb Report as “preparatory studies for a long-lost fresco cycle that once graced the ceiling of a loggia in Cosimo de’ Medici’s Villa Castello in Florence.” Duggal fabricated the drawings into vivid light boxes mounted on the mansion’s ceiling, effectively emulating the Villa Castello itself. Duggal’s Faith Young also consulted with Bishop to produce a collection of accompanying displays giving additional context to the recovered masterpiece.
