In addition to offering recycling services for paper, Kline Paper Mill Supplies also provides document shredding services to customers at no cost. With staff operating all of this equipment, safety is a top priority. St. John Properties allowed for the addition of skylights into the roof of the building for extra visibility and safety. And further along the line, St. John Properties approved switching out the light fixtures in the warehouse to LEDs for the same reason. “They’ve always been able to work with us if there’s something unique,” Kline said. “They’re open to it as long as we can figure it out together.” For Kline Paper Mill Supplies, the Columbia Center location checked all their boxes — it’s in a convenient location with access to all the major highways in the area, it had ample space for loading and unloading, space to grow, and as a plus, it’s near the Port of Baltimore for the company’s international reach. These environmental factors and the highly praised customer service of the team at St. John Properties combine to make one long-lasting commitment for the history books.
Supplies’ expansion allowed them to take on more customers, add new equipment like the second baler, and ultimately process more recyclable material more efficiently. More loading docks were added as well, which improved the company’s shipping and receiving capability and efficiency.
“We process a lot of paper every day — roughly 400,000 pounds every single day of the week,” said Leon Kline, CEO. To process all of those recyclable materials, Kline Paper Mill Supplies needed a lot of space. “Back when my uncles were looking for space in the ‘70s, they needed a warehouse that they could put industry-specific equipment in, have plenty of loading docks, rail and ramp access,” explained Kline. The team at St. John Properties worked with the pair to modify the space to fit their unique requirements — and they’ve been there ever since. Since the company was founded in 1976, it has undergone two expansions of its physical space, the most recent being in 2008. The floor of the original space needed modifications to accommodate the equipment height and the pit and conveyer belt system of their larger additional baler, so St. John Properties approved the modifications that included lowering sections of the floor for the new equipment.
