An adequate preparation of the · teacher should include: a satisfactory subject matter foundation; a knowledge of the pupil ; competency in the skills of teaching; the development and encouragement of critical judgment and crea­ tivity; and the development of social and personal traits., ethical standards and Christian ideals of service. R equirements. In order to qualify for the Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Elementary Teaching, a major, professional studies, and in certain cases a minor or minors are required as well as an additional year of post-graduate education. In order to qualify for the Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Elementary Teaching-Partial, a major and pro­ fessional studies must be completed leading to a baccalaureate de­ gree. An additional thirty units of course work (including the minor when required) must be completed within seven years of the first employment in elementary teaching under the credential.
