A Partnership at the Highest Level: UNDP timbuktoo
The relationship between AfriLabs and UNDP timbuktoo represents something qualitatively different from a standard partnership. AfriLabs serves on the timbuktoo Council - contributing to shaping the initiative’s inclusive, impact- driven approach at a governance level. This is an institutional alignment on a continental and global scale. In 2025, this alignment produced concrete outcomes. AfriLabs and UNDP timbuktoo co-hosted ecosystem engagements at the 10th AfriLabs Annual Gathering in Nairobi. This marked the first time the
Gathering was held at the United Nations Office, a deliberate signal of Africa’s growing prominence in global innovation governance. The partnership also drove the continent’s most comprehensive ecosystem mapping exercise to date.
AfriLabs does not sit on the UNDP
timbuktoo Council as a programme partner, but as a co-architect.
