The Company Scholarship program was established in 1995 and is a valuable benefit for employees whose children are attending college or graduate school. To date, we have awarded a total of $2.1 million to 188 students, totaling 497 awards over 30 years. A 2023 graduate of Pacific Grove High School, Tanner has been awarded the first Susan Merfeld Scholarship. This esteemed scholarship was created to honor Susan upon her retirement from the Foundation. Applicants were assessed based on academics, community and school involvement, as well as extra curricular activities. A 4.0 student, Tanner will be a junior at UC Santa Barbara and is studying electrical engineering with a focus on embedded systems and digital signal processing. His impressive resume includes roles at Starbucks, Palenke Arts and as a self-employed electronics repair technician. An accomplished guitarist, he’s played with the Monterey Jazz Festival All-Star Band and Palenke Arts Latin Jazz Combo. He co-founded Diversify Our Narrative PGUSD and earned recognition at Model UN. This summer, he will intern at the Naval Postgraduate School and plans to pursue a career in engineering, followed by a master’s degree.
