Dear Learning & Development Managers,

We are most excited to be welcoming you back to Dubai, this time to take you to the next level of our journey from Training to Learning. As you know, we will be spending time learning in detail about the LMS and conceptualising our priorities from a L&D perspective for the rest of 2019 and early 2020. As part of your preparation for this event, please take a moment to revise this document that contains the pre-work required and further information on the session.

Pre-work Activity No. 1: Shangri-La Academy Online

You should have attended 6 virtual meetings hosted by the Global Shangri -La Academy team on the LMS functionality.

In order to maximise the learning related to the LMS:

1. Access Shangri -La Academy Online. 2. Locate the Shangri -La Academy Online course. 3. Watch the recordings of the sessions. 4. Revise the Shangri-La Academy Online manual. 5. You are expected to be fully conversant with: • Module 1: Shangri -La Academy Overview • Module 2: Media creation • Module 3: Assessment creation • Module 4: Course creation • Module 5: User management • Module 6: Progress reports 6. Identify at least one question for each module (something that it is not very clear to you yet) and submit your questions using the link: click here

This means that everyone should submit 6 questions.

Pre-work Activity 2: Story-telling project on product knowledge.

A few months ago, you were asked to design a learning solution to increase product knowledge about your particular hotel using a story-telling approach.

Since we will be using Shangri-La Academy Online to host hotel-related learning solutions, please:

1. Bring the outline of your learning solution (is it a podcast series? Video series?).

2. Bring the actual files that you have prepared (audio files, video files, documents, photographs).

We will be practicing how to create content in the LMS for your own hotel and one of the immediate outcomes of the LMS workshop will be that you can implement this item as soon as you get back to your city.

Pre-work Activity No. 3: Shangri-La Academy Implementation Plan

One of the main components of our L&D Conference will be to ensure that we all have a plan to fully implement the Shangri-La Academy initiatives at a hotel level. These are: • Physical Rebranding of the learning space • Strategy for colleagues to go online to complete the core learning programs. In order to exchange best practice and ideas from everyone, you are required to prepare a 5 minutes presentation containing: - 1 slide with current photos of your training space (For hotels with no dedicated training space, skip this step). - 1 slide with the renders of what your Shangri-La Academy will look like after implementation. - 1 slide with the specific actions for the physical rebranding including dates and costing. - 3 slides maximum with the strategy that you will follow at a hotel level for the 100% of essential (core learning programs) target . Please note that your action plans should be specific and organised. Not just broad ideas. Take time to develop a plan. Please consider the Shangri-La Academy Guidelines.

Pre-work Activity No. 4: Programs Development Updates/Transfers In 2018 in our L&D Annual Conference in Sri Lanka, we identified a series of learning programs that needed to be developed based on feedback from GMs and Senior Leaders.

The following members of the team will have 20 minutes to present the finalised program and do a training transfer.

Please ensure that you bring the finalised materials:

Other Important Information

4. COSTING:

• Laptop (you will be requested to download a Software one week prior to the event). • T-Drive if your computer does not have sufficient memory as I will be transferring new workshops too. • Mobile phones fully charged.

• Your bill must be settled upon check-out. Bill will include: - Accommodation (for L&D conference only). - AED 600 for 2 days of L&D conference package • Please note that your room reservation at AED 500 per night includes all taxes and breakfast at Dunes café. • All breaks and lunches are also included.

5. GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL:

L&D CONFERENCE 2 DAYS: Casual

Bring a hat / sun-block Shorts + swimming gear

• The easiest way is to take a taxi (approximately 30 minutes away) costing approximately AED 50 at the most. • Train from the airport to Financial Centre Metro Station and then walk 5 minutes to the hotel.

• Comfortable shoes for an activity outside • Jeans / casual attire for an afternoon session

Please note that it is the start of the Summer in Dubai .

• LMS Day 1: Sunday, 23 rd 8:30am to 5:30pm. • LMS Day 2: Monday, 24 th 8:30am to 5:30pm + evening activity. • CONFERENCE DAY 1: 9:00am to 5:00pm • CONFERENCE DAY 2: 9:00aam to 5:00pm + optional dinner activity.
