Applied Music Requirements for Church Music and Music Education Maiors. The minimum number of earned units shall be 12. Students whose principal instru ment is: 1. Organ: 8 units of organ, 2 of voice, 2 electives 2. Piano : 8 units of piano, 2 of voice, 2 electives 3. Voice: 8 units of voice, 2 of piano, 2 organ 4. An orchestral instrument: 8 units of the principal instrument, 2 of voice, 2 of piano or organ. *Not allowed for credit toward the applied music requirements of the Music Majors. MUSIC ENSEMBLES* Biola Chorale. (3 hours weekly, 1 credit per semester.) Performance of choral works representing various styles and periods. Open to all students by audition. Instrumental Ensemble. (3 hours weekly, 1 credit per semester.) Rehearsal and participation in concert programs. Open to all students by audition. Oratorio Chorus. (3 hours weekly, 1 credit per semester.) Performance of larger choral works. Open to all students without audition. •As part of each semester's ensemble requirement all music majors will be expected to attend a designated number of professional and church concerts both on-campus and off-campus. This requirement will be waived for non-music majors. Member ship in an ensemble is required of all music majors during their entire course of study with the exception of the two final semesters in the Music Education major.
ADDITIONAL MUSIC COURSES (Not allowed for credit in the Music Major)
171. SONG LEADING. (2) A simple course in conducting especially designed to prepare the student to direct congregational singing through actual practice and analysis of each student's per formance. 270. MUSIC APPRECIATION. (2) A non-technical course designed for non-music majors to develop a more sympa thetic and enjoyable acquaintance with musical art. Includes a survey of music history with numerous musical illustrations, the study of various types of music, basic principles of music form, methods of listening, characteristics of various instru ments, themes of well-known works, etc. 341. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MUSIC METHODS. (2) A course designed for the elementary public school teacher covering all grade levels of the state music curriculum. Instruction in auto harp and in the methods enabling him to teach such classes as singing and rhythm band. Student demonstra tions required.
