What Did You Expect Study Guide

Session 10 Intimacy in Marriage

FOR GROUP PARTICIPATION These elements of the study are best used with others in a group setting.

How Did It Go Last Week? Share your successes and trials with the group. (10 minutes)

Recite your memory passage, Psalm 139:13-16 (as it is written in the Bible). Talk about how this passage has begun helping you to see your loved one as carefully and intentionally designed by God, “warts and all.” And how has it begun training you to give them grace in their warts and all? And God Said… Read aloud Hebrews 4:14-16 . What is the Point? Read these statements aloud and keep them in mind during the video. (5 minutes) • Sexual intimacy in marriage is an act of worship. • God’s timing is always right, and his grace is always available. • Be a soft brush for the canvas that is your spouse. Petition Pray this together aloud. B enevolent Father, Ordainer and Fulfiller of marriage, change our hearts by what we have learned in this teaching; bring it to mind in moments little and big, and prompt us to behave as Christ toward our spouse rather than according to our selfishness. Turn our view away from ourselves, and give us to see our loved one as near and dear to Christ Jesus, who is their Savior and ours. Amen. Hear the Word

Watch the video. (21 minutes) Let's Talk About That Discuss these questions. (30 minutes) Note : Keep this discussion of marital intimacy general and modest.

1. “You always carry the true character and quality of your marriage relationship into the marriage bed.” Discuss what Tripp means by this statement. So, when do you sow the seeds that determine the quality of an upcoming intimate encounter—during foreplay? Or does the cultivation take place much earlier? And is the cultivation merely an event , or is it a lifestyle ? How are doing the dishes, mowing the lawn, living on a budget and getting the children ready for church a more effective aphrodisiac than foreplay?
