in the direction of the North Star. Unless a compass is true, it is not only useless, but dangerous. The prophets in the Old Testament were like compasses,' in that they were supposed to point in the right direc tion, even when the people were going in the wrong direction. Jehoshaphat was a much better king than Ahab, and before going to battle, he insisted that the people ask the Lord’s advice. King Ahab gathered together about 400 prophets and asked them about going to bat tle. We read, “ And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king” (1 Kings 22:6). I am going to move 4 of the. com passes close together. As I do, they no longer point toward the north. Each one is false. When they are close together and not telling the truth, they remind us of the false prophets about whom I have been telling you. Jehoshaphat thought that the ad vice of these prophets sounded doubt ful, so he said, “ Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him?” (v. 7). He would rather have one prophet who was true, than 400 who were false. Ahab answered, “There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil” (v. 8). To please Jehoshaphat, Ahab commanded Micaiah to be brought, but when he prophesied fail ure for them in battle, Ahab ordered him put in jail. No matter where I take this compass, it still points toward the north. It is better for this true prophet to remain true and to be put in jail than to have joined with the false prophets in saying what the king wanted to hear. If we read the rest of the story, we find that it was just as the true prophet said it would be —they were defeated. Men often use liars,, but God never does; He uses only those who are willing to tell the truth, no matter how much it may cost them to be true. bed and a baby. (Paste the “ B’s” on pieces of folded paper. Inside the folded papers paste the pictures of the bread, the bed and the baby. Place the “ B’s” in a pocket on the back of the hive.) LESSON: Did you ever hear of a hive without honey? We have one that is sweeter than honey. I want to tell you about a great woman in the Bible who was very kind to one of God’s prophets, Elisha. While we do not know her name, we know of some of the kind things she did for the prophet. Whenever he passed by he was invifed in to eat bread. In this hive there is a “ B,” and. when I open it, I find a picture of bread. Of course, the word bread meant more than just bread— it referred to all the food. After Elisha had stopped several times the woman was sure that he was a godly man, and she wished that they had room for him to stay

longer—a room in which he could stay over night. She very wisely talked over with her husband the possibility of building an extra room in which Elisha could stay when ever he came that way. He thought it was a good plan, and so the room was finished and furnished when the prophet came the next time. In the room there was a bed, and in the bee-hive there is another “ B,” which reminds us of the bed on which Eli sha was to rest. Elisha’s servant called his attention to the fact that they had no children. This was, doubtless, the cause for much sadness in the life of this cou ple. Knowing that a baby would bring great joy to them, the prophet promised that they would have a child. This was a wonderful way God had for repaying them for being kind to one of His servants. We will take another “ B” out of the hive, and as we open it we see the picture of a baby. Later the child was so sick he died, and God used Elisha to bring him back to life. I think this family never ceased to be glad that they gave—for they received so much in return from God. Don’t forget the hive that had in it that which was sweeter than honey.
