Marty Sas has been working in the Bulk Electric System industry for the last 18 years; last year as the Senior Lead Engineer at SERC Reliability Corporation. The primary focus of his role is to be the liaison to the Reliability Risk Working Group (RRWG), Reliability Coordinator Working Group (RCWG), System Operator Working Group (SOWG), along with assisting the RAPA and other departments at SERC in the coordination and assessment of the bulk power system, to assure effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the bulk electric system. Before SERC, Marty spent the last 13 years at MISO, the last 5 years as the Senior Manager of South Reliability Coordination and Engineering. Marty began his career at MISO as Reliability Coordinator/Analysis for the East Region and then joined the South Region as the Lead Reliability Coordinator to assist in the creation in establishing the MISO South Region. The primary focus of his role as the Senior Manager of South Reliability Coordination and Engineering is to supervise his staff in maintaining reliable operations of MISO’s southern system through managing the balance of power, constraints, and market operations. Before joining MISO, Marty spent 4 years at PJM in their west control room as both a Power and Generation Dispatcher. Marty has been in the utility industry since 1994 and had several positions with a Utility Line Construction Company ranging from a Construction Manager to a Field Engineer. Marty currently holds his NERC RC certification and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from the Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
