Helps For The Children Jesus Teaches Forgiveness Matthew 6:14; 18:21-35

Memory Verse: “Be ye kind one to an other, tenderhearted, forgiving one an other, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:32). Have you ever said to anyone, “Well, I’ll forgive you, but I surely won’t for get what you did to me?” The one who says that, has not forgiven at all in the way that the Lord Jesus wants Christians to forgive. Peter said to the Saviour one day, “ Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him, seven times?” The Saviour’s reply was, “ I say not unto thee until seven times, but until seventy times seven!” Most of us, if we forgive someone two or three times, refuse to ever forgive that per son for that sin again. The Saviour told Peter a story about forgiveness. A certain king had a servant who owed him a large amount of money. When the servant could not pay the debt, the king commanded that the servant, his wife, his children, and all that he owned be sold to pay the money. When the servant heard the king’s order, he fell down and asked the king to be patient until he could pay the debt. After the king had allowed the servant to go, the servant found another man who owed him a small amount of money. The second servant could not pay the debt and begged for more time. Rather than forgiving as the king had forgiven him, the first servant took his friend to prison until he could pay the debt. When the other servants saw what had been done they reported to the king who quickly put the ungrate ful servant into prison until he should pay to the king the debt that he owed. God’s Word says, “ But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” If we keep on forgiving as much as God has forgiven us, we shall never be able to quit forgiving others!
