The “best of the best”in Ireland

Competing at a world level, that’s what the Embrun Family Karate / Kajukenbo team has been doing lately. Back from Ireland with multiple medals, one can easily say that the team did not disappoint. Having trained hard last summer and qualifying for the event, the Embrun team was representing Canada at theWorld Karate & Kickboxing Commission (WKC) World Championships that were taking place Octo- ber 31 to November 4 in Dublin, Ireland. Our winning team Naomi Brake (gold), Alex Hubert (silver), Gabriel Hubert (silver) and StephanieMac- Neill were competing at the world level for the first time. Gold and Bronze medalists Caylie Castonguay and Kaleb Desrochers were both competing in their third world Championships. Last but not least, Sidney MacNeill was competing in her 4th worlds and is now a 5-time world champ. She brought back gold for her Chinese forms, silver for the continuous sparring competition and bronze for point team fighting. Megan Cooper also qualified and trained very hard but was unable to compete in Ireland due to an injury. test their skills against the best of the best in their particular discipline. Martial arts
disciplines include, speed fighting (point and continuous sparring), kata (forms), weapons etc. and are divided by age and/ or weight class as appropriate. To be eligible to attend the world championships, com-
petitors must be selected to represent their country by their respective national team president by competing at either national championships, training camps or a series of regional tournaments.

Les Panthères d’Embrun ont obtenu trois points lors de leurs deux derniersmatchs. Le club d’Embrun accueillait les Cougars de Vankleek Hill le 11 novembre dernier. Les joueurs des Panthères ont vite fait d’attaquer leurs proies lors de la première période, marquant à deux reprises.
