Food for thought at Food Hub forum
Part of the future prosperity of Prescott- Russell’s agriculture sector may grow through the creation of a regional Food Hub to help promote local produce, meat, eggs, and dairy products. The Eastern Ontario AgriFood Network (EOAF) joined forces with the United Coun- ties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) to co-host a one-day information workshop and sum- mit focusing on the future of the local food industry and the feasibility of a Food Hub project for Prescott-Russell. UCPR Warden Robert Kirby, himself a working farmer fromEast Hawkesbury Township, expressed support for the regional food hub concept during one of the workshop sessions. «More and more, consumers ask about the source of their food and wish to purchase local produce,» Kirby stated. «Prescott and Russell is a region rich in agriculture and small food producers. We firmly believe that bringing these local products tomarket
will directly increase the annual income of producers, which will undoubtedly have a positive economic impact for our region.» The food hub concept is one of the latest trends for regional business networking of local food production and food services. In North America alone, more than a quarter of the existing food hubs in regular operation help generate more than $1 million a year to regional economies. The EOAF joint forum sawmore than 70 delegates attend, representing small- and medium-sized businesses in the regional food industry, ranging from producers through processors and distributors to the restaurant and wholesale/retail sectors, along with municipal officials and those from other agencies. Results from the forum workshop ses- sions will become part of an overall report on a regional food hub feasibility study due in April this year.

Née le 3 août 1920, Germaine est la fille de Régis Beauchamp et de Florence Gareau. Le couple s’établit sur la ferme familiale à Clarence Creek. De cette union naissent sept enfants : Gaëtan , né le 20 mai 1943, marié le 22 juin 1963 à Claire Beauchamp, fille de René et d’Anna Rochon, Jean , né le 29 août 1944, marié le 19 juin 1965 à Ghislaine Yelle, fille d’Arthur et Léontine Gratton, Gisèle , née le 5 octobre 1948, Nicole , née le 6 février 1951, mariée le 26 août 1972 à Gilles Bazinet, fils de Victor et Lucia Franche, Liette , née le 2 mai 1952, mariée le 8 juillet 1978, à Gilles Tassé, fils de René et d’Églantine Boileau, Louise , née le 18 juin 1953, mariée le 8 août 1981 à Gilles Laroche, fils
Code of conduct for counties staff The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) has a code of conduct manual for its staff. It is the first time that the UCPR has had in print guidelines for its employees to follow when dealing with the public, including how to avoid any accidental conflict of interest situations, and also how to maintain good relations between counties staff and the public, and between counties employees and their peers. As for the mayors sitting on counties council, the must follow the conduct guidelines established by the Municipal Act, which governs the behaviour of elected officials. - Gregg Chamberlain

Alcide et Germaine exploitent la ferme paternelle durant vingt- cinq ans. Après plusieurs années de dur labeur, en 1968, la famille emménage à Rockland. Alcide travaille de nombreuses années dans la région d’Ottawa. Germaine est une mère courageuse et dévouée pour sa famille. Elle œuvre durant plusieurs années à titre de bénévole au «St. Joseph Nursing Home» de Rockland, résidence pour personnes âgées.

Âgé de 83 ans, le 21 octobre 2003, après 61 ans de vie conjugale, Alcide décède suite à une courte maladie.
Germaine demeure toujours dans sa résidence à Rockland. Elle est âgée de 93 ans et jouit d’une bonne santé. Entourée de l’affection de ses sept enfants, ses dix petits-enfants et ses treize arrière-petits-enfants, Germaine jouit de chaque jour qui lui est prêté.
