people around me and everything I have in my life,

with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I feel like it’s a good time to take a moment to express that

It’s not only the customers and my team who have helped me reach this goal. My family has supported me through all the ups and downs over the years, in both my personal and professional life. My parents encouraged me to follow my dreams and stand up for what I believed in. I wanted to do something meaningful, and with both my mom and my dad’s support, I followed through. The beginning of US Solar was just a dream, but now, with the love and support of so many people, it’s become much more than that. What made my dream a reality wasn’t just my efforts. It takes the hands of many people working together to make dreams tangible and make them grow. I’m forever grateful for everyone’s hard work and continued support for my business, the company’s dream, and me. Through all the hard work of the fantastic individuals at US Solar, we can continue to improve our community and ensure that the people have the freedom to choose what’s best for them. Appreciate what you have in life, especially the individuals who have helped you on your path. To everyone in my life, thank you for everything you’ve done for US Solar and for me!

gratitude.

When I started this business, I wasn’t sure where it would end up, but I was determined to give the best I could for the community. As I’ve said before, US Solar has come a long way over the years, and it couldn’t have done that if it wasn’t for the people who cared as much as I did about clean and efficient energy. I am beyond grateful to all our customers who have believed in us from the very beginning. Without you, US Solar couldn’t have grown to become what it is today. I also want to thank my employees who have the same determination and mindset as I do. You are just as crucial to the business as our awesome customers. With your hard work and dedication to our goal to give our clients more power options for their homes, we’ll continue to become a better and bigger company. I wouldn’t be able to serve the number of clients we do today by myself, and I am so grateful to have such an amazing team that I can rely on. I know each team member gives their all in every project to ensure that our customers are completely satisfied with their installations.

I T ’ S A NO- BRA INER!

T HAT MORN I NG CUP OF JOE COF F E E AND I T S R E L AT I ON S H I P TO YOUR H EA LT H What’s the first thing you do in the morning? For most of us in the United States, it’s one crucial task: getting that morning cup of joe. Our obsession with coffee is nothing new. A paper entitled“The Consumption of Coffee in the United States,”published July 18, 1861, noted that“the people of the United States habitually consume more coffee than the inhabitants of any other country.”Its popularity has only increased with time; people in the U.S. consume an estimated 400 million cups of coffee a day. Of course, we weren’t the first to find out how great coffee is. Long before anyone in the Americas enjoyed the beverage, legend has it that an Ethiopian goat herder discovered the amazing effects of coffee beans—on his goats. He noticed that after eating“berries”from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic they didn’t want to sleep. News spread around the Arabian Peninsula, and cafes began to pop up, known as“Schools of theWise”for the intellectual conversations that happened there. In addition to coffee’s long-standing popularity, science has found several reasons to give our morning habit the thumbs-up. In 2015, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines evaluated the effects of coffee and caffeine for the first time, concluding that coffee can be part of a healthy lifestyle“along with other behaviors, such as refraining from smoking, consuming a nutritionally balanced diet, maintaining a healthy body weight, and being physically active.”The guidelines cite“strong and consistent evidence”that consuming coffee within the moderate range (3–5 cups per day, or up to 400 mg of caffeine per day) is not associated with an increased risk of major diseases. In fact, according to observational evidence, caffeine intake may be linked to reduced risk for certain diseases in healthy adults. Scientists think that antioxidants found in coffee, such as polyphenols, might contribute to its positive effects. There’s one major caveat, however. While coffee shows potential benefits when consumed inmoderate amounts, the sugar and other additives that many of us like to put in it get a thumbs-down. The Dietary Guidelines also note that health alone isn’t a reason to start drinking caffeine. Folks with blood pressure concerns should be especially careful and should consult their doctor about howmuch coffee is okay to drink, as studies have shown evidence of increased blood pressure with caffeine consumption.

“You made obtaining a solar system very easy. The next bill should be next to nothing — you can say, ‘Vacation, here I come!’” –Davide

“The customer service has been extraordinary! I’ve been very impressed.” –Carolyn

“My wife and I discussed it before we decided to take the plunge, and it was a very short conversation. Initially, we made the appointment. Then we got the financing kick through pretty

quickly, and they came one day and set it up. It was that easy. I believe it’s gonna raise the value of our house. It’s a 10-year-old home, and now we’ve got solar panels in. To say that now, once the financing is paid off, I’ll be off the grid, so to speak, and without an electric bill, speaks volumes.” –Rich Clemons

Everything inmoderation, as the saying goes, at least when it comes to caffeine.

CHOOS ING SOLAR POWER

F R O M T H E N T O N O W

The first signs of usable solar energy were discovered in 1876, when William Grylls Adams and his student, Richard Day, found that when the mineral selenium was exposed to light, it produced electricity. In 1953, the silicon solar cell was discovered, which was capable of providing enough power for small electronic devices to operate. However, it wasn’t until the early 1980s, over 100 years after Adams and Days’ discovery, that solar technology became available to homeowners on a limited scale. The systems were extensive and very expensive, making them almost impossible to own. Today, self-controlled, inexpensive solar power is an option available for everyone. People choose solar energy for many reasons. For some, it’s to have a sustainable energy source not dependent on fossil fuels, while for others, it’s for economic reasons. Many people want what’s best for the environment and their pocketbooks, and solar energy can help them achieve both. It’s like having the sprinkles on top of the cupcake — people want to be on the leading edge of the energy movement and take advantage of all the benefits it has to offer.

Solar energy is clean, sustainable, and safe. From nearly its inception, it’s been intended to be an energy source of the people. Nikola Tesla started working with Thomas Edison in 1884 and became well-known for his contributions to the design of the modern electricity supply system. Tesla made many of his patents, including that of the electric car, public domain. Some speculate that Tesla did this because he believed clean electricity was something the public should have, not something to fight for, and he wanted to give it to them.

Over the recent years, there’s a growing consensus and a consciousness around reducing our reliance on fossil fuels. From an environmental and financial perspective, solar energy will help the public and the Earth. People are becoming aware of all the ways they can impact and affect change in their environment. The

production of electricity for the home has come a long way in the last few years — it’s become more affordable and sustainable for every consumer.

WHAT TO TALK ABOUT THIS THANKSGIVING 4

DODGING THANKSGIVING AWKWARDNESS

CONVERSATIONS APPROPRIATE FOR THE DINNER TABLE

2. What Thanksgiving dish can you not livewithout? Without going culinary critic on your grandma’s meal, gush about your favorite dish. Just like with pets, people love discussing foods and recipes. You may start a fun debate or a recipe swap with this question. 3. Dad didwhat as a kid? Getting to know your relatives, friends, and significant others better will only strengthen those bonds. You’ll likely hear some interesting stories you can share with others and forge a stronger connection with your relatives. 4. Stupid human tricks, anyone? Let’s see those double joints! This one might not be for the squeamish at the dinner table, but it’s a fun, goofy activity that’s best shared over a glass of after-dinner wine. 5. Howabout we get coffee? Sometimes part of the stress of answering your relatives’ questions stems from holiday pressures. It may force you to address your bank account, love life, and general life choices. If you really do want to talk about your job or your love life with relatives, suggest meeting up again without the holiday atmosphere. While you’re all in one place trying to enjoy a piece of pie, plan a family winery tour, beach day, or camping trip. Family situations will always be a little stressful, but without the pressure of the holidays, you might feel more relaxed.

Thanksgiving conversation is often a minefield of topics: political divides, your English degree, and Aunt Marjory’s insistence that youmeet her neighbor’s cousin’s dog walker’s uncle’s son who’s a fantastic up- and-coming podiatrist.

Between constantly passing the potatoes and dodging your relatives’questions, Thanksgiving can be an exhausting holiday. But it’s a day to be grateful for what and whom you have in your life, so why do somany people leave their annual gatherings feeling overwhelmed and

misunderstood? This year, when the conversation begins steering in an awkward direction, try these conversation starters for a more relaxing and fulfilling holiday. 1. What’s your pet been up to? Maybe Fluffy learned a new trick or Oscar is undergoing some intensive grooming next week. Whatever the case may be, people love to talk about their pets.
