Getting To Know The PeakMotion Physical Therapy Staff! PeakMotionStaffSummer Favorites

Summer is fast approaching and with it hopefully some warmer, drier weather! Here are a few of our favorite summer activities. Jon: “My wife and I enjoy going camping in the Columbia Gorge, swimming at surrounding lakes, and hiking with friends. The Pacific Northwest is a playground sitting in our back yard. All you have to do is go out and explore it’s beauty.” Bre: “If I could only pick 4 things to do all summer they would be: kayaking, hiking, having bonfires and taking my truck to the beach to watch the waves and enjoy the sea breeze. Or essentially anything that allows me to enjoy the mosquito free and humidity free PNW.” Sara: “I love to take waterfall hikes. My favorite is a loop of 3 falls. Right off of Columbia River highway there is Horsetail Falls and a small parking lot. The trail head takes you up and around to Ponytail Falls where the trail walks you BEHIND the falls. It’s AMAZING! Then the trail connects to Oneonta Falls and you can finish back at the highway where you can walk on the road back to your

car. I hope this summer to explore and find new waterfalls to hike.” Emily: “One of my favorite PNW spots is the Cascade Lake Highway outside of Bend, Oregon. We love to camp there and paddle board several lakes in a day. Hosmer Lake is my favorite spot where I can float through canals of water lilies and marsh grass while my husband fishes, something for the whole family.”.

Discussing Sciatica & Back Pain with Mike Teater, DPT, OCS and Bre Lohn, DPT.

Dear Valued Client,

intense pain it can cause from the low back down to the feet. If you are suffering from sciatica, it is important to find its root cause. Many people often think an x-ray or expensive MRI is first needed to figure out what is causing pain. Having a lot of tests doesn’t mean you will find its root cause. Recent studies show that nearly 1 million of MRIs done for sciatica fail to find a treatable cause. With a new imaging technique called magnetic resonance neurography, 69% of the patients were found to have a trapped sciatic nerve deep in the buttock by a muscle called the piriformis. It is known that in about 25% of the general population, the sciatic nerve pierces through the piriformis muscle and can be suseptible to abnormal pressure and irritation. Why Does Sciatica Occur? If there are changes in posture, muscle strength or pelvic alignment, the nerve can be compressed which leads to the quite common low back and sciatic nerve pains. The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in your body. It even reaches down to the foot and therefore, can be irritated anywhere along its path. With sciatica, the consequent ache can be felt anywhere from the base of the spine, the buttocks or the back of the thigh and legs. Even tingling sensations in the toes can be attributed at times to the impingement of the sciatic nerve.

Patient Success Spotlight

“I’ve been injured now and again during my life and actually carried out clinical trials in patients with low back pain, but when I could no longer stand up straight or walk any distance I knew I was in trouble. I came to Peak Motion after a week of little improvement on high dose nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories. I found Mike’s excellent diagnostics and Jonathan’s deep tissue and exercise ministrations to be consistently helpful and eventually successful. Based on the professionalism, mutual respect and success I have experienced at Peak Motion I am happy to be able to share my experience and recommend their team for anyone needing physical therapy. Respectfully submitted” - Dan S. I am happy to be able to share my experience!
