like to bake, but your hands won’t let you roll out a pie dough or kneed bread, you could ask a friend or family member if they would like to learn a favorite recipe in exchange for their helping hands. Could your family help with cleaning, food preparation, or gift wrapping? Maybe you could ask for help with a holiday task instead of a gift. Sometimes people are reluctant to offer help because they don’t want to step on toes. In my family, my grandmother has always been very independent. We’ve had to learn to ASK HER how she would like us to help. If you are asking someone for help or if you would like to help someone who needs it, it helps to clearly communicate what needs to be done and how it should be done. Holidays are also a time rich with traditions. But if you’re in pain, it might not be possible to make that special holiday dish, or host the event you’ve “always” done – at least for this year! It’s ok to give yourself permission to skip a year – or even to make a new tradition and pass it on to someone else.
