Hands For Living_Holidays Without Hand Pain

The holidays can be a fun, but stressful, time - especially if your hands hurt. It takes more hand strength and dexterity to carve turkeys, chop vegetables, and bake pies than we realize. However, the holidays are less fun for everyone if you or a family member is in pain! It can be hard to ask for help, and getting the help you need can make or break your holiday joy.

like to bake, but your hands won’t let you roll out a pie dough or kneed bread, you could ask a friend or family member if they would like to learn a favorite recipe in exchange for their helping hands. Could your family help with cleaning, food preparation, or gift wrapping? Maybe you could ask for help with a holiday task instead of a gift. Sometimes people are reluctant to offer help because they don’t want to step on toes. In my family, my grandmother has always been very independent. We’ve had to learn to ASK HER how she would like us to help. If you are asking someone for help or if you would like to help someone who needs it, it helps to clearly communicate what needs to be done and how it should be done. Holidays are also a time rich with traditions. But if you’re in pain, it might not be possible to make that special holiday dish, or host the event you’ve “always” done – at least for this year! It’s ok to give yourself permission to skip a year – or even to make a new tradition and pass it on to someone else. Give yourself the gift of less pain or relief from a holiday “chore” so the holidays are more enjoyable for you and those around you. 3 2 9 8 3 7 1 2 2 4 3 8 7 7 1 9 6 3 8 5 2 1 6 4 9 2 7 2 7 5 8 http://1sudoku.com http://1sudoku.com n° 112446 - Level Easy n°223724 - LevelMedium 3 6 2 9 6 5 1 2 4 3 9 7 7 1 8 3 6 4 1 8 2 4 7 9 1 8 7 6 4 6 9 3 7 4 1 5 9 4 5 5 4 2 3 2 4 1 8 2 3 9 3 7 4 2 1 8 5 2 3 9 6 8 6 4

Have you lost your ability to do important tasks? Hand Therapy Gets Results!

You may never realize how essential your hands are to your every-day lifestyle until you lose their functionality. A freak accident, an injury, a chronic illness like arthritis—it happens to too many people. One day you may realize that your hands aren’t capable of tying that knot, of grasping that lever, or of picking up that needle. The realization that your hands are not able to do the basic tasks that you’ve relied on them for completing over the years can be a hard one to swallow. For many people, the need for hand therapy comes after having a severe loss of motor functionality following a stroke. Speech therapy and occupational therapy are regularly utilized following a stroke to restore annunciation, stabilityand personal strength. Hand therapy is another important resource to explore at this time. What is hand therapy? Hand therapy focuses on the intricacies of the muscles in the hand, and the important skills that are necessary to basic motor functions. Improving fine motor skills after having a stroke requires actually rewiring the brain through special exercises, helpingyou to rebuildmusclememories and restore functionality to as close to your previous levels as possible.

During hand therapy, you may be encouraged to complete exercises like:

• Flexing rubber bands between your fingers • Moving beans from one bucket to another • Squeezing a stress ball • Putting pegs in a pegboard

The idea behind these exercises is that theyhelp to re-program the muscles in the hand tomake certainmovements and tasks easier to complete. In order for the exercises to work theyneed to be repeated—and repeated often. You may be surprised by how necessary basic motor skills are to your every day life. Simple tasks that you likely take for granted—such as wrapping presents, decorating, cooking dinner, using scissors or working on arts and crafts—all of these tasks require motor skills.Your hands need to be able to move exactly as you intend, without any delay or limitations. Working with a hand therapist can help you to reach a place where your hands are your own again, and where you are able to complete everytask with the same attention to detail asyou used to be able to do.

Patient Spotlights “My pain subsided fast!” “My therapist encouraged me to do whatever I could, or felt comfortable doing. She helped me to find the typical time frame an injury such as mine takes to heal, then explained how I have done better then typically by following her instructions. My most significant overall change was how quickly the pain subsided and my flexibility has improved. My therapist is warm, encouraging, caring, understanding and a great listener. She is clear and concise with her care and instructions.” - Tracy U.

Have YouMet Your Deductible Yet? Have you met your annual insurance deductible or out of pocket maximum? If you have, your therapy may be free or you may have just a small co-payment. How do you check to see if you have met these limits? You can call your insurance and ask them or you can call us and we will gladly check your benefits for you.
