their customers. Their evaluations came up with the fact they don’t feel they have been treating their customers as well as they could because of circumstances beyond their control. Their customers were angry because they were used to having things ‘just in time’ or within a couple of days but because of material shortages and supply chain delays, lead times have been extended and delivery times have been compromised.” Live Plant Tours At the Packaging Xperience, attendees will learn about and investigate topics so they can be better equipped for what the markets are going to do moving forward. Some of this will be gleaned first-hand by seeing “excellence in action” via live plant tours at two AICC member plants. Arrowhead Containers, Inc. SMC Packaging Group is a full service provider of corrugated packaging, point of purchase displays, protective shipping cartons and an- cillary packaging supplies. For nearly 50 years, SMC has been dedicated to responding to customers needs. Based in Springfield, Missouri, with satellite operations in Kansas City, Missouri; Conway, Arkansas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma, SMC is one of the largest and most diverse independent corrugated manufacturers in the Midwest. The second plant tour will take place at Lawrence Pa- per Company (LPCO) in Lawrence, Kansas. What started as a paper mill in 1882 has grown into one of the lead- ing independent corrugator and converting facilities in the country. Now in its 5th generation of family owner- ship, LPCO serves its customers with some of the most technically advanced machinery in the industry. With an additional sheet plant located in Fremont, Nebraska, and another in Hutchinson, Kansas, LPCO combines a broad geographic reach through the Midwest with a system of “equipment redundancy and surge capacity.” Attendees who visit LPCO will see a 98-inch Fosber Corrugator, an Isowa Falcon Flexo Folder Gluer, an Engico Jumbo Flexo Folder Gluer, a Bobst Mastercut, a Bobst Ex- pertfold, a HP Scitex 17000 digital press, and several other pieces of machinery. Though now in their second gener- ation, LPCO’s Falcon and Engico were the first installed in North America. The company has invested more than $30 million in its Lawrence facility over the past decade alone to meet growing customer needs and to provide quality and efficiency throughout the entire production process As this issue of Board Converting News goes to press, D’Angelo said that additional speakers and programming were still being added to what is very likely to be one of the most comprehensive and informative, educational, customer-centric programs AICC has ever offered to its members.
