Policy News Journal - 2015-16

Based on the results of this quick poll it would appear that the 2010 – 2015 coalition policy to make it easier for HMRC customers to deal with their taxes may have fallen short of its mark ‘ by March 2015, HMRC customers can expect that we will answer 90% of telephone calls made…’ . Certainly that could be one perception drawn from the results of this quick poll

This week’s CIPP Poll

Our quick poll for this week is on another subject that we know many, quite rightly, have an opinion about and that is on the subject of GOV.UK.

Simpler, clearer, faster – but has the quality of PAYE guidance improved following its transition to GOV.UK?

Have your say by visiting the CIPP Poll on our home page (bottom right) and as ever please feed back more detail if you wish to us via policy

GOV.UK - simpler, clearer, faster? What did you think? 26 May 2015

One of the supporting details of the government’s service reform is ‘making government services and information simpler, clearer, faster ’.

The CIPP ran a recent quick poll where we asked ‘ Simpler, clearer, faster – but has the quality of PAYE guidance improved following its transition to GOV.UK?’

Out of 132 responses only 3% think that the quality of PAYE guidance has improved following the transition from HMRC to GOV.UK and 63% of respondents think that it is worse.

CIPP comment These statistics support the CIPP’s campaign to improve the guidance currently available. We recently reported a high number of members giving up with the employer’s helpline; perhaps they have had an increase in calls due to guidance not being available, or helpful via GOV.UK? The CIPP will be carrying out further investigations in the coming weeks and months and will be working with HMRC and other professional bodies to try and resolve some of these issues.
