Welcome to the Era of Lifestyle Healthcare

Hi, My name is Mike and you’ve most likely seen me running around the clinic taking care of things. I manage the practice along with my wife, Robin, and son, Cory. Over the years, healthcare has seen some changes. Some small, others BIG! In the past, we would only go to the doctor if we were sick. In recent years, it’s been that and the preventative approach. Checking things like blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and activity levels. Some things never change; some do in a big way. Right now the move is to an era of lifestyle healthcare. My doctor told me to lose weight by eating right and exercising more and has been telling me this for years. RIGHT? How’s that working for me? Even though we own all the equipment to do that, who has the time? After spending 12-14 hours at work, who wants to stay longer to get in a workout? He also wants to put me on blood pressure medication as I tend to be on the high end of the scale. Enter the Era of Lifestyle Healthcare! Several months ago, Robin was treating a retired physician for an injury he sustained while playing Pickel Ball. During the course of treatment, he mentioned that he and his wife (a retired Physician Assistant) were health coaches. This piqued her interest as we started our practice 15 years ago due to our desire to help others. Right now, we have several patients that are in need of joint replacements and have been informed by the surgeon that the surgery would have to wait until they lost 40-50 pounds as each pound of overweight adds 4 pounds of pressure to the joints. So 50 excess pounds equals 200 pounds of pressure on your joints! Guess what the surgeon told them? “You need to eat right and exercise more”. REALLY! There has to be a better way. Diets seem to work in the short term but are hard to sustain as weight comes back after reaching your goal weight. Exercise can

be extremely difficult for those with joint pain. The key is to change lifestyle habits into healthy habits, one habit at a time. We checked out the program they were involved in and found that the majority of the folks that participated not only lost substantial weight, but also kept it off for years after. It made sense, but we were still skeptical. What made sense was for us to go first, before making any recommendations to our patients. What we also liked was that this is a six step process, with achieving your goal weight as the first step. Steps two to six dive into lifelong health habits. Robin and I started the healthy lifestyle program the day after Thanksgiving and have been amazed at how easy this program is. Even with all the holiday goodies, we were still losing weight every day. After 4 weeks, I was down 20 pounds and my Blood Pressure dropped 40 points. Today, we have both lost 35+ pounds and are on track to reach our goal weight within weeks. With the help our coaches and community we will be where we want to be. The program is also effective for those fighting diabetes and many have come off their medications. Take a look at the before and after pictures below and see for yourself. If you’re interested in not only losing weight, but becoming healthy overall in the process, give us a call. We would be happy to introduce you to what has worked so well for us.
