dying of a “corn of wheat” which issues in multiplied life (v. 24). It was the ob ject of His coming into the world (v. 27). It was to mean the judgment of sin and the defeat of Satan (v. 31). Moreover, it was to be the mighty magnet drawing all kinds of men unto Him, some in grace, others in judgment (v. 32). No wonder there came a voice from heaven express ing approval of our Lord’s calvary work! (vv.. 28-30.) This was one of three times when such an audible voice from heaven was heard during Jesus’ ministry. The other two occasions were at His baptism and at His transfiguration. Helps for the Children Honoring Jesus John 12:1-8, 20-26 Memory verse: "He that1 loveth his life shall lose if; and he that hafeth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal" (John 12:25). Last Sunday we talked about a home in Bethany where the Lord Jesus often visit ed. Some time after the Saviour had raised Lazarus, the brother in the home, from the dead, He visited in Bethany again. Mary and Martha and Lazarus had a supper in honor of their Lord. Martha served the meal, but Mary want ed to do something very special to show her love for God’s Son. She planned to bring Him a gift at great cost to herself. During the supper Mary took a pound of perfume which was very costly and anointed [or washed] Jesus’ feet with it, and then wiped His feet with her hair. One of the disciples complained at this apparent waste of money, but the Lord Jesus wds pleased with this expression of Mary’s love for Him. Have you ever told your parents that you love them? Of course you have with your iips, but have your actions said, “I love you,” too? Children who refuse to help with the work in the home or com plain constantly or do not obey their par ents are not showing their love. God says, “Children obey your parents,” and again, “Honor thy father and thy mother.” We honor our parents by showing our love, not merely saying, I love you. Those who live selfishly for themselves are never happy and never bring happi ness to others. The Lord Jesus said, “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” March 21, 1954 Jesus' New Commandment John 13:12-17, 34, 35; 14:21-24 Pointers on the Lesson We are coming now to the shadows of the cross. John 13:1 tells us that it was “before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come” that He washed the disciples’ feet and spoke to them the wonderful words of today’s les son. Words of Christ uttered just before His calvary experience seem to be espe cially meaningful. Last words usually carry a solemn significance.
