Key Tasks

Estate Management

• Develop, plan and programme a property maintenance strategy for the portfolios owned by Chichester Cathedral and St Mary’s Almshouses; • Instigate and carry out appropriate site surveys and investigations, including Quinquennial Inspections of Cathedral properties (excluding the Cathedral building) and St Mary’s Hospital Almshouses properties; • Take ownership of the maintenance and works budgets, providing effective forecasting information to support budget setting then ensuring that allocated budgets are monitored and adhered to, both for ongoing work and major projects; • Report to Chapter, Fabric Advisory Committee, Executive Board and other committees, as required, in particular taking responsibility for supporting the Fabric Advisory Committee (FAC); • Implement and monitor an ongoing schedule of regular checks, maintenance and grounds maintenance for the Cathedral, St Mary’s and their respective estates, working with the Cathedral and St Mary’s Maintenance Managers and Works Team; • Lead and manage the maintenance staff, in conjunction with the Maintenance Managers, to support key objectives and deliver a high standard of work within budget; • Instigate a system or CAFM to efficiently monitor and manage all maintenance activity and work requests; • Develop and maintain an accessible system of building records, including the extensive existing documentation; • Responsible for Health and Safety, Fire Safety and other compliance for the Cathedral and St Mary’s (e.g. fire alarms, firefighting equipment, legionnaires, gas safety, PAC tests etc), including the chairing of regular health and safety meetings and the maintenance of appropriate records; • Liaise closely with Chapter, the Surveyor of the Fabric and regulatory or statutory bodies, including the Chichester Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committee (FAC), Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England (CFCE), Chichester District Council, Chichester Conservation Area Advisory Committee, amenity societies; • Liaise with the Property Manager in support of property rentals as required; • Provide estate management support and advice to the Prebendal School, a neighbouring organisation with which the Cathedral enjoys a close partnership.
