ADVENTURES NEAR AND FAR

And a Love Worth Celebrating

the whole day on the lake. Equipped with our suits and another layer or two, it was just fine. We also had a blast testing out the Jet Ski we bought last year; the kids had so much fun that the Jet Ski was running constantly as they took turns on it. We had a paddleboard too, so those who weren’t on the Jet Ski could still hang out on the water. The younger kids had a blast on the beach, playing in the sand and relaxing. We spent most of the day on the water, all the way up to dinnertime. Then, we went to fill our hungry bellies up with some tasty food. At one point, we saw a baby moose walking where we were hanging out. We felt a mixture of excitement and fear — excitement at being so close to wildlife and fear that this moose’s mother might be close by and wouldn’t be so happy to see us near her baby! Beth and I got ready to grab the younger kids if we needed to, but, fortunately, the baby moose just munched on some grass and moseyed on through with no mother in sight. It was a cool experience. Payette Lake is stunning, isn’t it? The vast, clear water and trees on the mountain ridges make for a beautiful view. I really appreciated being up there and having the beach almost to ourselves. It was a perfect time to go, and the relaxing weekend was a wonderful way to kick off the summer season. Thinking about my family and how much joy they bring me, I want to take a moment and dedicate this article to my partner, friend, wife, and the love of my life, Beth. As you read this, Beth and I will likely be on our way to Spain to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been 20

years. Those two decades seem to have gone by in a flash, and at the same time, each year has been full of the love, adventures, and family that Beth and I made together. Our trip to Spain will be an incredible way to celebrate an exciting milestone with the love of my life and to kick off the next 20 years of marriage with her. Beth, here’s to us!

We recently got back from our first trip to McCall for the summer, and, man, it was good to get to the mountains for a weekend! Our whole family came along, and we stayed in a cozy cabin close to the lake. We slept in every day, enjoyed breakfast together, and let the weather warm up a bit before we headed outside. Though the water was cold, the weather was beautiful, and we had no problem spending

HIKING WITH YOUR KIDS

Watch Their World Expand With Every Step

along with you. Let your kids look at leaves, rocks, insects, or anything else you might come across on the trail. You can also bring binoculars to help them look at a bird that might be perched a little too high up. Another option is a bug holder to let your kids catch smaller insects, such as grasshoppers or pill bugs, and give them a close-up look. KEEP SAFETY INMIND While you’re out on the trail, it’s essential to make sure that both you and your family are safe. Wear breathable, noncotton material and sturdy shoes that don’t expose your toes. It’s important to dress according to the weather. For example, if the day is sunny, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and apply plenty of sunscreen on any exposed skin. Bring your kids’ favorite snacks and water bottles for everyone to stay hydrated. It’s crucial that you also bring a fully stocked first-aid kit in case someone is injured on the hike. Starting with one of your local hiking trails can be a rewarding way to spend the day with your kids. You can watch their excitement as they expand their world with new discoveries.

Hiking has many benefits as a family activity, such as mental health improvement, strengthening your relationships, and experiencing new sights and discoveries together. It’s also great exercise, and you get plenty of quality time, fresh air, and sunshine. Here are three guidelines to help you and your kids have fun on your next hike. ENCOURAGETHEIR CURIOSITY One of the best ways to have your children learn about the world is letting them explore it. Being there for your children and encouraging them to ask questions about flowers, bugs, or animals you see on the trail will help them expand their vocabulary and learn how things work. When they learn they can explore independently and ask about the world around them, they’re gaining the confidence to teach themselves. BRING ALONG SOMETOOLS OF DISCOVERY Getting your children to engage in nature while you’re out hiking can be as simple as bringing a magnifying glass

Kalie and Caryn Cleaning With Dentures and Partials

During your appointment, let us know if you’re experiencing any discomfort with your dentures or partials. Dentures and partials don’t need to be uncomfortable! If yours are, let us know. Sometimes the bones in the mouth realign and affect the fit of an appliance. We can adjust the appliance, so it fits better and is more comfortable inside your mouth. Remove your appliance at night and clean it well. You’ll want to give your dentures or partials a good brush in addition to the other methods you use to keep them clean. As you brush your teeth without the appliance, give extra attention to the areas behind and underneath it. For daily care, take your dentures or partials out at night and clean the area under and around where they sit. Keeping your mouth and appliances clean will help prevent plaque buildup and make it less likely you’ll experience tooth decay and cavities. Remember, these appliances are here to help you, not hinder you, and you deserve to have them fit right and do their job! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about your dentures or partials. We’re here to help!

For our patients who have dentures or partials, keeping those appliances clean along with the rest of your dental hygiene routine can pose an extra challenge. But we are here to help! There are a few ways you can get the best from your appliance.

July 22 is National Hammock Day! Sit back, relax, and soak up that summer feeling. The hammock is thought to have been invented by the Mayans, who used the bark of the hamack tree to weave their hanging structures. From there, the trend spread throughout Central and South America, and, as we enjoy it today, hammocking eventually became a popular pastime worldwide. When setting up your hammock, find two sturdy trees that can bear its weight and be kind to the bark, or you can use a stand in your backyard for an even easier setup. With a book in hand and a cold drink, you’ll be celebrating this holiday exactly as it’s intended.

THE PERFECT PUSHUP

Tips To Step Up Your Game your main focus, the faster you go, the easier pushups will be.) Once you master this style of pushup, you can begin to increase the difficulty. GET ONTHE FLOOR After a quick stretch and warmup, start your pursuit of the perfect pushup by limiting the distance your elbows have to drop.Try doing pushups with your hands placed on the seat of a stable chair and your legs stretched into a pushup position behind you to train your body for the form you need on the ground. Next, get into a standard pushup position with two yoga blocks underneath your chest. As you drop to the ground, watch your body for proper form and remove the blocks as you progress. PRACTICE Rest days are essential to any fitness routine, but when your rest days are more frequent than your fitness days, your body isn’t going to adapt and grow. Keep practicing and tweaking your pushup technique. Set small goals, such as not dropping your hips, and make plans to meet them. Asking a friend to monitor your form is a helpful way to improve too. With a little patience and plenty of practice, you’ll be doing pushups like a pro in no time!

Have you ever noticed how military personnel can drop to the floor and crank out 30 pushups effortlessly? Believe it or not, so can you! All it takes is a little practice. Follow these tips to perfect your pushup. FOCUS ON FORM There’s a variety of pushup forms, and they vary both in difficulty and in which muscles they target. However, there is one pushup form that sets the foundation for the more technical and challenging moves. For the standard, military-style pushup, keep your torso lengthened in a straight line and your hands directly underneath your shoulders. When you drop to the ground, keep your body rigid and drop in one fluid motion, with the bend of your elbow pushing outward. ( Pro tip: While form should be
