Julia, being a true Irish lass who knows her own mind, has other ideas. “It’s a romantic-comedy,” said Erik Nissen, one of the actors in the RDHS Drama Group production. “The bumbling old fool has a marriage plan for his daughter, and his daughter loves somebody else.” Curtain goes up at 7 p.m. for the show and the evening’s performance serves a double purpose. A chance to present the work be- fore a live audience for feedback before looking at entering it as one of the RDHS offerings in this year’s Sears Drama Festival, and also raise a bit of money for the drama department. The Jan. 14 concert at the Optimiste Per- formance Hall began with Led Zep’s Rock and Roll, followed by Victoria Goddard’s solo vocal on “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables , then Donnelly with the “Trum- peter’s Lullaby” and “Bugler’s Holiday” fol- lowed by Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto Third Movement. More Led Zep followed along with “In- nisfree” featuring the Celtic Cross Dancers, and “Requiem” sung by orchestra members in tribute to the victims of the Philippines Typhoon. “Stairway to Heaven” completed the Led Zeppelin homage and the evening finished with the “Cantina Band Sequence” from Star Wars .

ROCKLAND |A dozen young thespians of- fer a preview of what they hope will wow the judges at this year’s drama festival. The door is open and everyone’s as wel- come as if they’d never come at all to An Irish Engagement on Jan. 24 at the Rockland District High School cafetorium (RDHS). The one-act play byWalterWatts concerns the pending nuptials for one Julia Bullfinch, at least as far as her father, Mr. Bullfinch is ROCKLAND | A special guest proved the star attraction at this year’s Winter Con- cert offering from St. Francis Xavier Catho- lic High School. Karen Donnelly, lead trumpeter with the NAC Orchestra, joined the SFX Orchestra under the direction of Steve Pankiewicz for an evening of Led Zeppelin mixed with a bit of classical symphony, Irish dance and space opera. Donnelly is not an SFX alum- nus but she has a soft spot for community student music programs. “She started with the trumpet in high school,” said Principal Daniel Conway, re- garding Donnelly’s guest appearance, “and wanted to give something back.
