All in an effort to deliver vital programs and services directly to all communities in California, at no cost.
Each year, we realize and redefine what's possible for victims of drunk and drugged driving crashes. We are encouraged by the introduction of new technologies and other innovations designed to help end impaired driving. We constantly adapt to the unpredictable, persevere amid the unalterable and embrace every opportunity to see a world with no more victims. Our outlook is bright and our determination is strong. We seize the fact that there will someday be no more victims. But until then, MADD California will work tirelessly on behalf of all citizens of California.

MADD has served more than 900,000 victims TO DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING VICTIMS.
Long after the crash, survivors, family and friends continue to feel the impact. MADD Victim Services is here to provide you with emotional support but also assistance in a variety of ways after a drunk or drugged driving crash, all at no cost to victims and survivors. Sometimes that begins by finding someone who can listen, someone whose shoulder you can lean on or whose hand you can hold. MADD has trained victim advocates to provide services across the country. Our team of compassionate, victim-focused staff and volunteers are available nationwide 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, and can help you, your family and loved ones by:
Providing you and your loved ones with emotional support Guidance through the criminal and civil justice systems
Accompanying victims and survivors to court Helping you prepare a victim impact statement Referring victims and survivors to appropriate resources for additional help Offering support groups in some areas Connecting you with other victims and survivors who’ve had similar experiences Providing you supportive materials on victimization topics

In California, MADD provided supportive services to drunk and drugged driving victims to help them cope with the devastating impact of substance-impaired driving crashes. When tragedy strikes, victims need support. MADD prides itself on being one of the largest victim services organizations in the country. Part of those services includes ensuring a victim’s rights are maintained. From making a victim impact statement to notification of offender status, victims have rights thanks to the Victim Rights Act of 2004.

MADD SoCal TOOFS Press Conference & Vigil NOVEMBER 18, 2022 On Friday, November 18th, 2022, in the City of Los Angeles - MADD Southern California along with local officials, law enforcement; and drunk and drugged driving victims hosted a press conference and candlelight vigil to kick off MADD's Tie One On for Safety® campaign. In collaboration with Councilman Mitch O’Farrell along with the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles City Hall was illuminated in red in honor and memory of drunk and drugged driving victims. This was the first time in MADD Southern California’s history that victims have been honored in such a meaningful way. Illuminating the lights red officially acknowledges the kickoff of MADD’s Tie One On for Safety® (TOOFS) campaign. TOOFS is MADD's longest-running designated driver, and public awareness program. TOOFS highlights efforts to save lives during one of the most dangerous times of the year on our nation's roadways - the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.
MADD CAlifornia programs
MADD California is responsible for the population of the State of California. This feat would never be accomplished without the volunteers involved with the Volunteer Speakers Bureau, which we consider to be an integral part of the success of MADD throughout the Nation. Each of our volunteers has a personal understanding of the ramifications that impaired driving can cause. They donate hundreds of hours out of their busy schedules to share their stories in hopes of saving the lives of others. They stand beside us at press events, participate in the “Every 15 Minutes” program, DUI checkpoints and help deliver school and probation department presentations. In 2022, our staff and volunteers traveled all over California delivering MADD’s core programs and services, all of which are free of charge to the public. We are able to offer free services due to the support from generous donations, grants, foundations, and collaborative sponsorships. With this support, our Volunteer Speakers Bureau provided prevention education presentations to thousands of youth, adults, and military members in our communities.
243 presentations POWER OF YOUTH This presentation empowers teens to take a stand and influence their peers against underage drinking and riding in a car with someone who has been drinking. 55 presentations POWER OF PARENTS This educational presentation influences parenting behavior to prevent underage drinking, maintain the minimum 21 drinking age in all 50 states and engage new supporters to carry on MADD's lifesaving work. 27 presentations TEEN INFLUENCERS This presentation uses select teens who serve as positive role models for choosing not to drink alcohol under the age of 21. 96 campaigns YOUTH-LED AWARENESS These awareness campaigns provide youth in high-risk and underserved areas the opportunity to develop messaging and programming to influence their peers and community against underage drinking and impaired driving.

Staff and volunteers distributed close to 437,865 educational materials at DUI checkpoints and community events, reaching almost 545,427 people in person and online.
MADD programs
29,000 participants VICTIM IMPACT PANEL Court-ordered program to give impaired driving offenders a perspective of the lasting impacts of impaired driving.MADD California provided Victim Impact Panel presentations in English and Spanish to DUI offenders online and in-person. 285 presentations VICTIM STORIES Participated in community/school events providing Victim/Survivor presentations in an effort to reach community members. These presentations lasting up to 1.5 hours allow families and victim-survivors to share how they have been personally affected by impaired driving in an effort to bring awareness to our communities. 438,015 pieces EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL Develop and distribute educational material throughout our communities via MADD staff and volunteers at community events, checkpoints, and educational presentations.

teen influencer institute
The MADD Teen Influencer Institute is a virtual intensive 5-week program designed to train and develop peer-to-peer educators. Graduates will be prepared to represent MADD on a local and national level and provide the youth perspective for underage drinking prevention programming as MADD Teen Influencers.

teen Summit
MADD California hosted its 6th Annual Teen Influencer Summit on Saturday, October 29th. This free event was held at Long Beach City College at the Liberal Arts Campus (D135) in the City of Long Beach, CA. The event celebrated the 10th anniversary of MADD’s Power of You(th)® program and featured youth-led activities to promote mental health and prevent underage substance abuse. Since 2012, MADD has reached almost 1.5 million teens, educating, and empowering them to make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others by pledging to Take a Stand against underage drinking. The goal of the teen conference is to positively impact youth's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors around underage drinking and impaired driving through leadership development opportunities provided through the MADD California Teen Influencer Group workshops led by teens.
law enforcement & Prosecutor recognition awards
MADD’s Law Enforcement & Prosecutor Recognition Awards (LER) has received outstanding reviews since its inception. Every year, MADD honors law enforcement for the number of impaired driving arrests made annually along with first responders, prosecutors, probation officers, and MADD volunteers for their life-saving efforts as each impaired driver taken off the road is a potential life saved. We invite you to be a part of honoring these heroes across the country by supporting this year’s MADD’s Law Enforcement & Prosecutor Recognition Awards Ceremonies.
1,320 awards LAW ENFORCEMENT
MADD California recognized peace officers with a total of 52,477 DUI arrests at our 2022 Law Enforcement and Prosecutor Recognition events in California for their life-saving work in DUI enforcement and traffic safety.
Campaign to eliminate drunk driving
55 dui checkpoints CAMPAIGN TO ELIMINATE Participated in checkpoints with Law Enforcement throughout the state to distribute awareness materials.
Since its creation in 1980, MADD has worked side- by-side with law enforcement, launching the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving in response to more than 13,000 people who were being killed each year. Fair and Equitable Law Enforcement is our first line of defense, and we support their efforts to identify and remove impaired drivers from our nation's roadways. These brave men and women put their lives at risk every day and are often victims of impaired drivers. MADD supports law enforcement heroes who keep our roads safe and we applaud their efforts to help us end drunk and drugged driving.
Driver Impact Program (DIP): In collaboration with law enforcement, DIP is a pilot program helping impaired, excessive speed, and/or distracted driving offenders recognize and internalize the lasting and long-term effects of reckless driving. The classes seek to create empathy and understanding of the tragedy, leaving a permanent impression that leads to changes in thinking and behavior with the goal of preventing future offenses.

Tie One On for Safety® is MADD's longest- running designated driver public awareness campaign. It works to save lives during one of the most dangerous times of year on our nation's roadways-the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. From November 1 through January 1, visibly display a MADD ribbon on your vehicle to remind everyone to always designate a non-drinking driver.
The Los Angeles Police Department placed TOOFS ribbons on their entire fleet totaling 1900 ribbons.

Walk Like MADD events are highly visible community events hosted throughout California. Walk Like MADD is MADD's signature fundraising event to help us raise both awareness and funds to end drunk driving and fight drugged driving. With every step taken and each dollar raised, walkers are supporting MADD’s lifesaving mission to keep our families and communities safe.

Boating under the influence accounts for 25% of all deaths on California waterways
Over a 2-year time period for Northern California, there were 487 boating crashes, that led to 261 injuries and 66 fatalities.
Alcohol is even more hazardous on the water. The marine environment, motion, vibration, engine noise, sun, wind and spray all accelerate the impairment effect. In fact, at .035 percent, a boater’s ability to operate a boat is impaired. MADD works with the Michael and Ina Korek Foundation for the boating under the influence awareness campaign and all the work we do is in memory of Korek family members, Sophie and Cynthia who were killed by drunk boater in 2012 on Lake Englebright.

First Responder Trick Shot Challenge fundraiser in the Bay Area – raised $5000 and social media posts raising awareness.
