Counties council changes budget goal sell (UCPR) council voted during its Oct. 28 regular session in favour of a one per cent increase to the proposed 2016 budget. Council has now directed administration staff to review the preliminary budget report and see where cuts and savings might be possible to achieve that goal. The revised budget will come back to counties council later in November for review and possible approval, depending on the results of the administration review. Counties council also asked staff to find a way to allow for a further increase of $250,000 in the budget for the Roger Séguin seniors retirement home.

The Clarence Creek facility already has an allocation of $250,000 in the current 2016 budget proposal. But counties council received a letter from the facility director asking for a further increase to help deal with provincial government demands for upgrades.

“We wish to thank Mrs. Louise Lepage- Gareau for her hard work and dedication over the last 35 years, and we wish her an excellent retirement,” stated Robert Kirby, UCPR warden. “At the same time, we’d like to welcome Mrs. Julie Ménard-Brault, and we look forward to working with her in the years to come.” Ménard-Brault joined the UCPR finance department in October 2007, serving as ac- counting and financial information systems supervisor. She holds a University of Ottawa bache- lor’s degree in commerce, majoring in ac- counting, and is also a registered chartered accountant.

Julie Ménard-Brault steps in as the new financial director and treasurer for Prescott and Russell counties when Louise Lepage- Gareau closes her accounts files and puts the ledgers away as she begins her official retirement next year. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) approved Ménard-Brault’s promotion as treasurer-designate during its October 28 regular session. She takes over the finance director’s post effective January 1 st 2016. Lepage-Gareau’s last official day with the UCPR is December 31 st 2015.

Tree planting fund available The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) is now accepting applications for the Municipal Tree Planting Program. The program aids projects to increase local greenspace within the watershed. During 2015, 5,000 tree seedlings and small-sized trees were planted in Russell Township, Edwardsburgh Cardinal Township, Alfred-Plantagenet Township and South Dundas Township.
