The sold-out event kicked off with a Sunday night celebration with the foundation golf tournament hosted the following day. The George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic celebrated 12 years of raising awareness about kidney disease and organ donations. The mission of the George Lopez Foundation is to create positive, permanent change for underprivileged children, adults and military families confronting challenges in education and health, as well as increasing community awareness about kidney disease and organ donation. From his foundation web-page, George Lopez said, “I am thankful for the kidney transplant I received in 2005, which has allowed me to pursue my two passions – playing golf and giving back to others less fortunate. As we enter the ninth year of the new Foundation, we continue to improve the quality of life for many children and adults, giving them the opportunity for a brighter future. Please join me in supporting this very worthwhile cause.”

Chairman Stevens said, “It is always an excellent opportunity to support our gaming partners, like George Lopez. He has embraced the success of Indian country through tribal government gaming, and his support of our industry honors us through the economic & employment opportunities he provides through his ventures and partnership with our gaming operations. Besides leading the George Lopez Foundation, his multi-faceted career encompasses television, film, standup comedy and late-night television. Lopez has also joined forces with tribal gaming properties to create the Chignon Kitchen, a restaurant serving expectational Mexican cuisine, including in 2015 at the San Manuel Casino in California and most recently in 2019 at the Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino owned and operated by the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona.
