By Aaron Williams
G rand Historian Kevin Scott (Chicago (IL) Alumni 1998) held a Friday afternoon workshop for brothers at the 83 rd Grand Chapter meeting on the Kappa Archive Recovery Initiative (KARI) program. Briefly, KARI is an archival retrieval and management pro- gram the Grand Historian started a few years ago to assist the fraternity in the recovery, inventory, and preservation of historic fraternal items, memorabilia, documents, and publications from the fraternity’s past. The program also includes easy guidance for brothers to follow concerning instruction to family members on handling their personal fraternal items once they transition to Chapter Invisible. During the workshop, Grand Historian Scott provided an overview of the KARI program, distributed KARI materials
had great questions and discussion with workshop attendees concerning the direction of the KARI program, its importance to the fraternity and how brothers and chapters can support the KARI program. The Grand Historian reiterated his vision of leveraging the artifacts acquired via the KARI program to establish a Kappa Alpha Psi museum at IHQ. Artifacts includ- ing documents signed by Founder Elder Watson Diggs, original United States map which displays the early provincial structure of the fraternity, an actual Conclave gift, a mug, from the Golden Anniversary Grand Chapter Meeting in 1961, a recently acquired early Coat of Arms lapel pin and past Journals. The Grand Historian provided the work- shop attendees with fascinating stories about the acquisition of various fraternal artifacts. Numerous anecdotes about him coordinating with numerous chap- ters, brothers, and family members of brothers regarding the collection Kappa artifacts as well as the challenges that program faces.
