83 RD GRAND CHAPTER MEETING: SPVP SPOTLIGHT

training for leadership woven into it. More often than not, the Vice Polemarch will one day assume the mantle of leader and begin the process of moving the body col- lective forward achieving in every field of human endeavor. The Province Polemarchs have been charged with carry- ing out the vision of the Grand Polemarch. The Senior Prov- ince Vice Polemarch provides the necessary support to help execute that vision. Our consti- tution and statutes define the Senior Province Vice Polemarch (SPVP) as the elected Province officer responsible for performing some of the duties of a Prov- ince Polemarch in his absence. Furthermore, the role of Vice Polemarch is declared worthy in our ritualistic meeting openings; implying qualities or abilities that should be recognized. The Journal (Journal) sat down recently with the SPVPs to dis- cuss their role and in what ways they’ve assisted with executing the vision of the fraternity as well as bring forth their own ideas for moving Kappa forward. NORTHERN PROVINCE Michael L. Kinloch Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti (MI) Alumni Chapter Time serving as Senior: 1.5 years Journal: What is one significant initiative you lead as SPVP (for your Province and/or Grand Chapter)? Kinloch: I coordinated the first Northern Province Polemarchs and Committee Chairman Summit under the leadership of Province Polemarch Kevin D. Kyles. The summit provided and opportunity for all Alumni and

Undergraduate Chapter Polemarchs and Province Committee Chairmen to learn about the Northern Province’s 24 th Administration’s vision and the strate- gies that was designed by Province Polemarch Kevin D. Kyles to execute the Grand Polemarch’s Six Point Plan. Additionally, the summit gave members an opportunity to provide input and buy into the strat- egy before it was rolled out to the entire Province membership. The Summit provided break out rooms for the Chapter Polemarchs and Province Commit- tee Chairmen to meet with their respective Province Board Member(s) for the day to further engage into more details regarding their roles, responsibilities and expectations for the year Kinloch: Over the past 14 months serving as the SPVP of the Northern Province has been a humble and pleasurable experience for me. I have observed and admired the deeds and accomplishments made by the Province under Province Polemarch Kevin Kyles' leadership. As the SPVP, I will continue to support the vision of Province Polemarch Kyles. It means that I have an opportunity to work closely with the Province Polemarch to better understand and learn about the responsibilities of Province Polemarch, the components of the organization and to provide input regarding the leadership and service provided to the Fraternity, the Province and local chapters members. It also means that I have the op- portunity to contribute to and facilitate the Province Polemarch’s initiatives that serves our fraternity, Province, local chapters. It also means that I hum- bly have the opportunity to represent the Province Polemarch at various events in his absence. I also have the opportunity to be trained for the position and be considered to serve in the position of Prov- ince Polemarch [in the future]. Journal: Describe the importance of the relationship between the SPVP and the Province Polemarch. Kinloch: The relationship matters. I believe it is very important that the SPVP and the Province Polemarch have a good relationship to effectively and efficiently serve the Fraternity, the Province and local chapters. Additionally, the SPVP needs to make sure he understands his primary role, that supporting the vision and initiatives of the Province Polemarch, representing him in his absence at various events and serving the Province membership. Journal: What does being a SPVP mean to you?

or aspect of the company's larger objective. But in Kappa, this is not the case. The Polemarch and Vice Polemarch work together as a seamless unit; while the Polemarch casts a vision for the fraternity, Province or his chap- ter, it’s the Vice Polemarch that usually executes the plan. This symbiotic bond intrinsically has
