in the activities that were planned. The signature event became the Military Re- ception and Awards Banquet with more than 500 attendees—many decked out in formal military uniforms. The theme for the awards banquet was “Sustaining Achievement in Our Armed Forces Through Ethical Leadership and Selfless Service.” Active duty and military Kappas repre- senting the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard attended. Re- cently retired U.S. Army Gen. Dennis L. Via, 72nd Laurel Wreath awardee was the highest ranking Kappa attendee. Brother Lt. Gen. Aundre Piggee, the Director of world-wide Army logistics,

was the official military host. “The unique traditions of a military for- mal bind us together as Kappa men and patriots who serve a great nation,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Nathan Mooney, an MVAC committee member. Banquet guests heard an insightful keynote address from retired U.S. Army Gen. Lloyd Austin III, former command- er of U.S. Central Command and former Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. Austin commended the fraternity for supporting veterans and shared vignettes on ethical leadership learned over this course of his four decade career. Three brothers were recognized for their outstanding contributions and achieve- ments to the Fraternity and to their communities: • The John Milton Lee “First to Fire” Memorial Award for Mili- tary Service and Achievement was presented to Capt. Robert Dews, Capt., U.S. Navy, Annapolis (MD) Alumni Chapter • The Dr. F. George Palmer Memo- rial Award for Outstanding Military Veteran was presented to Samuel W. Bell, Louisville (KY) Alumni Chapter
