• The General Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr. Memorial Award for Military Cadet Achievement was presented to Cadet Jack Lowe, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., Kappa Mu Chapter. The North- eastern Province Polemarch Brother Craig Chisholm received the award on behalf of Brother Lowe. guished Military Service Award was presented to retired Lt. Col. James W. Williams, U.S. Air Force, Former Prisoner of War, Vietnam War, Atlanta (GA) Alumni Chap- ter. Brother Williams received a standing ovation for his exceptional service while in the military and in civilian life. It was also noted that Brother Williams was shot down over North Vietnam and spent 330 days in captivity. A special tribute was presented to more than 100 Vietnam War veterans. Each was presented a lapel pin and proclama- tion commemorating the 50th anni- versary of the war signed by President Obama. The certificates were issued by Generals Austin and Via. Via closed the evening by recognizing the two World War II brothers in at- tendance. A sustained ovation was given to Brothers Linwood J. Smith, Sr. and William Goldsborough for their service and patriotism in the 1940s. “The night was all about honoring our service,” said retired Col. Dwight Thomas, past Eastern Province Polemarch. “Demand for tickets ex- ceeded our expectations and shows the high regard Kappa has for its veterans. We’re already planning for a larger event in Philly in 2019.” In addition to social activities, the MVAC is spearheading the Fraternity’s partnership with U.S. Army Cadet Command and other Military Services to deepen this relationship at Provinces across Kappaland.
