Cadets Jefferson and Tutman Earn Scholarships

J ames A. Jefferson, II is a Spring 2017 initiate of the Jackson State University Chapter, the Delta Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi. Brother Jefferson is a senior and a US Army Cadet MS IV at the ‘Tiger Battalion’ at Jackson State University with an anticipated commission date of December 18, 2018. Brother Jefferson will be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army as a Adjutant General, Engineer or a Quartermaster Officer. Major General (Ret.) Rueben Jones was commissioned in 1978 from Jackson State University Tiger Battalion. The Tiger Battalion has produced 4 General Officers. Cadet Jefferson declared in his own words…“ROTC has been highly rewarding as an MS IV in the Jackson State University Army ROTC program where I serve as the Executive Officer for the Tiger Battalion… and I currently serve in the Mississippi Army National Guard where I serve in the 168th Engineer Brigade Headquarters where I am continuously acquiring skills, experience and valuable training”… “and I began my military affiliation by gaining significant knowledge and insight by entering into the Forest

Hill High School Army JROTC program where I quickly matriculated through this program while acquiring ‘real’ life leadership experiences from retired military veterans, who were my instructors which truly prepared me for physical training requirements, mental endurance and also the various trainings involving tactics and basic field maneuvers. Brother Jefferson affirmed that his experiences as a young student leader are attributable to the ‘Premier’ Jackson Alumni Chapter Kappa League which facilitated his becoming Battalion Commander in high school and Vice President of the Kappa League, he worked daily to ensure that his peers could have the same opportunities that he was offered. Brother Jefferson subsequently applied for the National Army ROTC scholarship which he was awarded the 3 year scholarship to Jackson State University…. “It was then and there that I became aware that my career path was to become a United State Army Officer”. “Upon my initiation into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, I was provided guidance to matriculate through life as an professional and with a variety opportunities to build my leadership skills...
