Kappa Journal Post-Conclave Issue (Fall 2017)

Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Cross

Dear Brothers: Fall is coming to a close and the start of the Spring Semester is quickly approaching. This is a time for us to recommit ourselves to the aims, goals and objectives for which Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded as an undergraduate fraternity. The 83 rd Grand Chapter Meeting was successful. Like good Kappa Men, we handled business, fellowshipped and served the community. Now, as we move into an- other year in serving Kappa. As your new Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, I ask for your support and cooperation as we begin a new calendar year. Our Grand Polemarch, Brother Thomas L. Battles, Jr., has implemented Kappa’s “Six Point Plan.” One focus on the plan is Undergraduate Development. Emphasis is placed on fraternalism, leadership, academic achievements, civic pride and empowerment. A part of this development is understanding our Consti- tution and Statutes, Robert’s Rules of Order, and adher- ing to policies and procedures of our respective colleges and universities. Moreover, our undergraduate chapters are encouraged to implement various fraternity programs and activities such as raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Guide Right, Healthy Kappas Healthy Com-

This complements the fraternal objec- tive of, “Service in the public interest.” Please submit information on your projects to The Journal, as well as to your province newsletter, website, and local media. Let the world know what Kappa is doing! Each province has held a C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference. I trust that you were able to enhance your fraternal knowledge and increased your personal growth and development. Membership Training Academy (MTA) has been conducted by many chapters. We ask that you implement a fair process that is consistent with the fraternity’s rules and regulations. Our goal is to train new members in a productive manner. There are many societal issues that impact college stu- dents, particularly men of color. The media highlights activities where there is violence and injustice. As a fraternity, we are concerned about the well-being of our members. Please be safe, and make sure your social events are authorized, held in secure loca- tion and have alumni supervision. Our fraternity has a 106 year legacy of leadership, faith and culture. Our ten founders exemplified excellence. As undergraduates, we must carry this torch, and let our educational opportunities serve as a foundation for a
