Q: What motivated you to become a lawyer? While studying for my Ph.D. in Educational Administration, I was encouraged by my advisor, Dr. Philip T.K. Daniel, to consider attending law school. In addition to having his doc- torate, Dr. Daniel was also an attorney, and he found the degree very helpful in his academic endeavors. So, when I went to law school, I didn’t intend to become a lawyer to practice law; I intended to open charter schools and wanted a legal education to learn the analytical thinking skills associated with that training. After beginning law school, I discov- ered an area of law, “education law,” and decided to pursue that route before ultimately transitioning to a general commercial litigation practice, Q: What did you learn about yourself when you were a math teacher? I learned that I was enamored with the notion of helping others achieve their greatest success. That lesson has carried me through other periods of my life, enabling me to see success in both law and politics.
Q: Can you talk about the importance of being equally yoked with your wife and how that bond affects your ability to be successful? Being equally yoked has been the key to any and success I’ve had in my adult life. My wife and I share a mutual desire to assist the other in attaining and obtaining the pinnacle of satisfaction in our personal and professional lives. When we have been presented with respective opportuni- ties to pursue personal/professional satisfaction, the answer from the other has very seldom been, “No”; rather, it has almost always been, “How can I help?” With a true, sincere desire to help one another to self-actualize, my wife and I have been the perfect couple.
Q: What is the Nevada legislature like?
I view the Nevada Legislature as a place deserving of respect and rever- ence and as a place requiring those who work with its halls to remember their charge. In that regard, legislators are sent there to do “the people’s busi- ness.” There, real laws are made that
