Zeta Iota's Steven Van Tiflin is Committed on and off the Field

Another common passion was helping others. That motivated him to choose to double major. "I'm studying finance and real estate and plan to earn a certifi- cate in legal studies," stated Van Tiflin. "I always loved the idea of help- ing people and I really wanted to learn both finance and real estate in more depth to both help me in my own life and also for the betterment of others." Van Tiflin is inspired by a par- ticular quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; “Darkness can- not drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” On why he chose the University of Georgia after graduating from Heritage High School? "When I was looking at schools to continue my football career, I knew if I were to go anywhere that I would want to play for a man of God. Coach Richt was the coach at the time, and I had studied him and how he acted through his press conferences and demeanor on the sideline. I liked what I saw, and I knew I wanted to play at UGA. In order to do so, I had to apply as a stu- dent, then try-out for the team. I did just that and made the team

S teven Van Tiflin, by his own words, grew up in a loving, Christian family. As the young- est of three children by seven and nine years, he was able to watch his brother and sister’s lifestyles and pick and choose what he liked about each of them.

"We all played sports, my brother playing football and basketball and my sister ran track and played basketball in college. I had the blessing my parents being together throughout my child- hood. I’m grateful for how supportive they were and always making an effort to come to my games," said Van Tiflin

by the Grace of God."

Van Tiflin is a wide receiver, and plays on special teams as well.
