KAPPA NEWS: GUY L. GRANT AWARDEE—SOLOMON C. PURYEAR

T his incredible moment would not have been pos- sible without God, my family, The Lambda Iota and Chattanooga (TN) Alumni chapters, Brother Leonard Clemons and the South Central Province. Founder Guy Levis Grant was known to be small in stature, but a giant in charitable endeavors, something we all work diligently to emulate. It is imperative that I correlate with being a firm believer in Christ, a respected son and brother, and a servant to my community. After being initiated into the Lambda Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ® , I obtained the spirit of pouring into others as my mantra. When I joined the fraternity, a brother conveyed to me:

qualities obtained as a man of Kappa and aligning with the goals and aims of our respected founders.

It is appropriate that Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporat- ed always implements the tools needed in order to succeed personally, academically, and professionally. It is essential for us to utilize this platform to promote positive change. A Kappa man puts others before himself. A Kappa man doesn’t stick to the status quo and blazes his own trail. A Kappa man strives to achieve in every field of human en- deavor. A Kappa man embodies the makings of an effective leader, one to impact those around him. I am eternally grateful for my experience within the frater- nity thus far, and having this honor bestowed upon me is fulfilling as it promotes the upmost regard of service and leadership within our noble fraternity. So as I accept the Guy L. Grant Award, I would like to remind everyone, “It’s not about how much you keep for yourself, but how much you pour into others.” Thank you and God bless!”

It is not what Kappa can do for you, but rather what you can do for Kappa.

Those words were forever embedded in me, and I immedi- ately started to think about what I could bring to the table.

Throughout this journey, I have worked consistently to enhance my life and the lives of others by displaying the

Publishing achievement for more than 100 years
