Christ an d Glory Published by Our Hope, 456 F o u rth Avenue, New York City. This book which has ju st come to our desk is a rep o rt of “Addresses delivered a t the New York P rophetic Conference” held in Carnegie H all New York, November 25-28, 1918. This conference was in some respects th e most im po rtan t of any of th e series of prophetic confer ences th a t have been held in th is coun try. Many of th e leading prem illenar- ium s of th is country were present. The following denom inations were rep re sented by th e different speakers: The Methodist church, th e Dutch Reformed Church, The P resby terian Church, The Church of England, The Reformed Epis copal Church and th e B aptist Church. A pparently th e most largely represented on th e program were th e P resbyterian and B aptist denom inations. The P res byterians were represented by Dr. Ford C. O ttman, Dr. J. W ilbur Chapman, Dr. C. I. Scofield and Dr. R. A. Torrey. The addresses as repo rted in th is book cover a wide v ariety of subordinate topics. Mr. Gaebelein spoke on th e Pre-em i nence of th e Lord Jesus Christ and His Coming Glory, Lewis S. Chafer on The Crowns of The Lord Jesu s Christ, Leon W. Tucker on Advent Hopes, Dr. D. J. B u rrell on The Signs of th e Times, Dr. F o rd C. O ttman on The Manifestation of th e K ing in th e Gospel of Matthew, Dr. Jam es M. Gray on The Characteristics of th e P resen t Age and its End and also upon Christ th e Executor of All Judg ments, Dr. J. W ilbur Chapman on Saved When th e Lord Comes, Dr. W. H. Grif fith Thomas upon The Influence of the Study of Prophecy upon Life and Ser vice of a C hristian and upon The P rince of Peace, Dr. W. B. R iley upon The L ast Times and When W ill th e Lord Come, Dean W. L. P etting ill on The Church and th e Kingdom, Mr. Joseph W. Kemp on The Two R esurrections, and Dr. R. A. Torrey on The Blessed Hope and The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ th e F in al Answer to all Infidelity. . Dr. Chapman’s address was especially in teresting and valuable for th e fact th a t it was one of th e la st addresses, if indeed not th e very la st th a t he deliVi ered before his calling home. Many

who heard Dr. Chapman often said they had never heard him speak w ith more in te rest and power. The w riter of th is review received special blessing from the address of Dr. Chapman. The repo rts of these addresses were for th e most p a rt tak en in shorth ind, b u t are very full though no t always verbatim , nevertheless in th e main ihey seem to be very accurate. The b tok will be of g reat in te rest and value to all in terested in the question th a t is occu pying more atten tio n a t th e p re sm t tim e th an almost any o th er question, th a t of th e Second Coming of Christ. Rome B ehind th e G reat War. By J. A. K ensit, Published by P ro te sta n t T ru th Society, 3 and 4 St. P au l’s Churchyard, London, E. C. 4. This is a small book of only sixty-three pages, paper covered, b u t is a very illum inat ing book, and every p ro testan t m inister and every one who wishes to be posted as to one of the g reatest perils th a t confront us h ere in America, th a t from the Roman Catholic H ierarchy, should read it. Many will be astounded. On page seven Mr. K ensit says, “Lord Robert Montagu’s statem en t as to the political organization of th e Vatican should help B ritons to realize the power array ed again st them .” Then he gives th e following quotation from “Recent Events, Section V.” ' “The Curia is a Cabinet of long standing and knowledge of affairs. It never ‘goes o u t’ by th e action of an adverse m ajor ity in a representative Chamber. All have been carefully train ed for th e ir w ork; while from repo rts derived from p riestly confessors all over th e world, th e best and most detailed knowledge of th e ch aracter and inten tion of states men, and th e passions of people are ready to th e ir hand. The Vatican is the center of all th e inform ation of the world; and every bishop has periodic ally to visit Rome in o rder th a t his inmost soul may be probed, and his con tin u a l repo rts may be tested. Such is th e cabinet w ith which P ro testan t statesm en hope on equal term s to cope.” The following quotation on page six from Cardinal Manning should be
