Work alone fo r the fir s t three m inutes and then team up w ith ano the r per son fo r tw o more m inu te s .” These methods o f involvement may be much d iffe re n t from those th a t you have been accustomed to using. But the emphasis o r purpose fo r using devices such as these is sim ple b u t v ita l— to get the person thinking, involved and participating right from the beginning. Too often a teacher enters the classroom , sits down, takes o u t the ro ll book and spends precious tim e de te rm in ing who is the re and who is n ’t. A fte r th is , many begin by saying ‘ ‘ Now it is tim e fo r the lesson” (as if the students d id n ’t know it was tim e fo r the lesson). Many students can an tic ip a te each and every move and phrase th a t th e ir teache r w ill make. They are able to do th is because the re is little va rie ty in th e lesson preparation o r in the approach to th e lesson. People in ou r churches are c h a l lenged a t every tu rn o f th e ir lives. They are asked to th in k , react, take action and get involved in th e ir d a ily lives. Com ing to any type of class a t th e church should not be a tim e to s it back, relax and pas sively stray from creative th in k in g to fle e tin g daydreams. Who w ill cap tu re them? Who w ill change th e ir a tttiu d e s toward Sun day school classes? Who w ill make the e ffo rt o f do ing some creative th in k in g and g iving o f more tim e to insure the successful opening o f a lesson? Only the person who has th e re spo n s ib ility fo r th a t lesson! Be w illin g to try a d iffe re n t ap proach. Be w illin g to experiment. Immediate involvement is the an swer to total involvement and ac tion in a lesson. KB H.
