• Degree or equivalent, preferably in an sustainability/ environmental related discipline • Membership of a professional body e.g. Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) • Recent relevant experience in a similar senior and influential role leading the sustainability agenda for a large, complex organisation • Demonstrable experience of implementing a sustainable management system • Track record of leading an organisation through a transformative improvement in sustainability performance • To provide specialist expertise, support and advice on sustainable development • Effective communicator (oral/written) • Effective user of a wide range of communications media • Team worker, although with the ability to work independently • Training, negotiating and motivational skills

Prior experience

• Suitable relevant experience in a similar role in a large complex organisation • Experience in the public/education sector • Expertise in one specific area e.g. waste, transport • Evidence of financial savings delivered through the implementation of environmental policies • Teaching/training experience • Advanced Information Technology skills (e.g. web page design, graphics) • Advanced budget management • Advanced project management
