Quarry Glen New homes from $189,900

HAMMOND | The beginning of spring for five students from Clarence-Rockland will be far away from the snowfields of Ontario. They are off to Central America Guatemala to help out at an orphanage in Guatemala. St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School has a five-member group joining the 2014 Guatemala Mission in March. Jade Con- rad, Meranda Nolan, Sophie Lauzon, Chris Bowen, and Victoria Goddard leave Ottawa March 10 as part of a 50-member mission to the Latin American country from six schools in the Catholic District School Board of East- ern Ontario. The group is assigned to live and work at an orphanage just outside of Guatemala City, run by NPH International. “We are a mission team, not in the ‘evan- gelizing’ sense, but in the sense of aiding others less fortunate economically than ourselves,” said Father John Whyte, SFX chaplain. “We will be lending a hand to build new structures at the orphanage and assist in the day-to-day activities of the place, such as gardening, food preparation, and teaching.” The five SFX students will find themselves becoming English-as-a-Second-Language teaching aids with some very large classes. “With over 400 orphans there is a lot of work to do,” said Father Whyte. “The Guate- malan children are eager to learn English, and we will enjoy the challenge of commu- nicating in Spanish.”

Volunteer insurance

L’ORIGNAL | Volunteers are the backbone for many community programs and proj- ects and now they will have insurance coverage from the United Counties of Prescott-Russell. Counties council voted to accept a pro- posal to spend $750 a year extra on its li- ability coverage for a Volunteers Accident Insurance Policy. The policy is meant to pro- vide accident coverage, with certain limits, to support volunteers who provide support for special events and programs that the counties sponsors.
