Video showcases Canada’s number one love ROCKLAND | What is the one word that makes anyone around the world think of Canada? So wouldn’t a hockey music vid- eo be a great way to draw attention to the importance of mental health?
While petite choreographer Shelley Ket- tles ran the students through a dry run of their on-ice maneuvers, Pegg explained the premise behind The Hockey Project. “The idea is that Canada is the one na- tion in the world that is also obsessed with hockey, and so we are using our passion with the sport to share the message for uni- versal mental health. We have to get mental health out of the penalty box and put it on centre ice.” When complete, the video will debut on YouTube and Vimeo in mid-February as part of the 2014 Winter Olympics celebration.
Larry Pegg and Edmund Eagan think so. And so do a lot of others. Like the students at the Canadian International Hockey Acad- emy in Rockland, because some of them are taking time out from their studies to be- come temporary video stars for The Hockey Project, a tribute to Canada’s game and pro- mote public awareness of mental health is- sues, including suicide prevention.
