EFFECTIVE HIP & KNEE PAIN RELIEF Discover The Key Treatments To Reduce Pain and Stiffness Naturally

Put A Spring Back In Your Step Do you find it harder to walk, run or exercise? Is hip, knee or leg pain keeping you from being active? If so, understanding how your body walks and moves can be the key to putting the spring back in your step. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections Platelets are a specialized type of blood cell involved in injury healing. Platelets also contain large reservoirs of natural growth factors. Platelet-rich plasma therapy uses a dose of concentrated platelets from the patient’s own blood to help them heal faster. Used to treat orthopedic injuries that aren’t responding to traditional methods, platelet-rich plasma therapy is a series of safe injections, ranging from one to four, that often has injury sufferers feeling better within weeks and performing their daily activities within months of beginning therapy.

Platelet-rich plasma injections can be effective in treating: • High repetition muscular injuries, as well as acute muscle tears and strains • Knee tendonitis and tendon injuries, including the Achilles tendon • Injuries and sprains to the ligaments, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)

• Tennis and golfer’s elbow • Partial rotator cuff tear • Plantar fasciitis

At Advanced Wellness, our experienced clinicians will help determine if you are a candidate for Platelet-Rich Plasma injections.

Getting physical therapy FIRST helps 60-70% of knee patients avoid surgery.

Superfood Of THE SEASON

Pumpkin Spice No-Bake Cheesecake

Super easy holiday dessert, this no-bake cheesecake is light and fluffy, made with pumpkin and spices. Quick and simple to make in under 10 minutes!

Servings: 8 • Size: 1/8th slice Calories: 222 • Fat: 13g Carbs: 25g Fiber: 1g • Protein: 3g Sugar: 16g Sodium: 224 mg • Cholesterol: 28g

We’re Obsessed With Pumpkin!

Americans are obsessed with this season’s superfood and retailers are cashing in. While you can enjoy the occasional pumpkin latte, muffin, pie, potato chips or sip the flavorful beer, you may need to incorporate more of the real deal to reap the health benefits. While eating pumpkin itself can be limited to the season, the seeds and seed

oils are readily available all year round. The seed oil is loaded with phytonutrients and has been shown to lower blood pressure and prevent hypertension. The seeds themselves are rich in tryptophan which helps the body to make serotonin, the feel-good neurotransmitter that helps you relax and unwind. Top them with a little pink sea salt and enjoy!

INGREDIENTS • 8 oz 1/3 less fat Philadelphia Cream Cheese • 1/2 cup pureed pumpkin (canned is fine) • 1 tsp vanilla • 1 tsp cinnamon

•1 tsp pumpkin pie spice • 1/4 cup brown sugar, unpacked

• 4 oz Truwhip, thawed (Truwhip is a healthier version of Cool Whip) • 9 inch Graham Cracker Crust

DIRECTIONS In a large bowl whip cream cheese, pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and brown sugar for a few minutes until fluffy. Add Truwhip and whip until smooth. Spoon mixture into pie crust and chill for a few hours, until firm.

“I came to Advanced Wellness because I wanted to lose weight and get healthier for my daughter’s wedding. I heard about Advanced Wellness and their Medical Weight Loss Program from an e-mail that I received. I would most definitely recommend Advanced Wellness to my family and friends. I would like to thank Dr. Yen, the nutritionist,

Christine, Alex, Tim, and all the girls at the front desk. Everyone treated me with respect and courtesy. They were accommodating with my crazy schedule about getting me in for my LIPO injections. Are You Struggling With Your Diet This Season? Tis the season to be jolly... but for many who have struggled with weight loss the holidays can put a damper on the most wonderful time of the year. Surrounded by traditional favorites, baked breads, rich desserts and decadent cocktails, one can almost visualize the numbers on the scale heading in the wrong direction. Fear not and RSVP yes to your festive engagements by arming yourself with these helpful tips:

• Eat before you go. As silly, as this may sound, the best way to arrive at your function and be able to pass on high calorie and high fat hors d’oeuvres is to not be plagued with hunger pangs. In addition, you will be able to make healthier food choices placing more emphasis on salads, protein and vegetables. • Avoid high sugar spirits like daiquiris, coladas and margaritas. With just two of these types of cocktails, you could consume half of your days’ worth of calories. Instead, choose light beer, red wines like pinot noir or chianti, white wines like pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc or mixed vodka club drinks with a splash of juice. Since alcohol dehydrates the body which can lead to extra snacking, be sure to drink plenty of water in between. • You can’t have your fruitcake and eat it too. Holiday desserts can be rich in sugar , fat and calories which can really pack on the

pounds especially if coupled with a high carbohydrate dinner. Try chewing on gum or sipping on a flavored herb tea to help squelch the desire to sample a little bit of everything. But if you must indulge, choose a reasonable portion of one of your favorites or two half portion sized desserts. • Calories in, calories out. If you are going to indulge you must exercise. Exercising an hour a day, or 30 minutes at high intensity, 5 times a week will help keep your clothes fitting nicely. • 80/20 rule. Stick with a low carbohydrate diet throughout the season with plenty of protein, vegetables and healthy fats. No need to add any extra rice, pasta, cereal or bread to breakfast and lunch meals. This will allow you to partake in some decadent foods a few times a week without adding the average 5-7 pounds of holiday weight gain.

Advanced Wellness offers many nutrition programs to suit your goals, budget and timeframe. Call the office today to schedule your free consultation.

Are You As Flexible As You Should Be?

Performing at Your Best Whether you are just out for a walk or an avid athlete, we can help you walk, run and play better. With our motion analysis, strength testing, coordination testing and more, we can spot your muscles and joints that need flexibility, strength or coordination. A specific training and treatment plan is then put together to help you reach your peak movement with the least effort. Discover how our Spine Program transforms your back pain from a pressing problem, to a distant memory, allowing you to live a happy, active and pain-free life.

Can you do these simple tests to see if your hips and legs are as flexible and strong as they should be? Try them for yourself and let us know how you did. Use caution and common sense when attempting these tests; do not continue if they cause pain or discomfort.  Do not attempt if you have had a hip replacement. • From standing, can you touch your toes? This indicates hip and low back flexibility. • In sitting can you comfortably cross your legs so that your ankle is resting on the other knee? Does one knee go further down than the other? This indicates hip flexibility. If one hip is tighter than the other, it can wreck havoc with your walking and even cause knee pain. • Keeping your feet flat on the floor and holding onto something solid, how far can you squat down? You should be able to squat all the way down so your buttocks almost touch

your heels. Don’t let your heels pop up! If you favor movement to one side, you probably have hip weakness on that side or limited motion in the hip joint. • Standing near a counter top put one foot in front of the other so that you are touching heel to toe. Without putting your hands down, see if you can balance for 10 seconds, keeping yourself steady. If you cannot, then you have trouble with the coordination of your balance from the nerve endings in your hip, knees, ankles and feet. Restoring Normal Pain Free Motion Restoring normal motion is key to alleviating pain and allowing you to do the activities you love to do safely. Physical therapy is the key to restoring normal joint and muscle motion. Our medical experts pinpoint the key problem areas that you may not even be aware of and focus on a custom treatment plan that will restore your normal pain-free motion.
